DO PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THE THINGS YOU WRITE?

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

P.s this post is majorly addressing the creative communities and not all content producers. But if the shoe fits you perfectly, then be my guest.

The most important thing to a writer is an audience.

To be frank, most of us here are not writers. I'm sorry if this might offend anyone but it's a simple truth. Some of us just discovered this awesome app that rewards writers (generally, content creators) and we just jumped on the bandwagon.

Being a writer if you ask me is more than just putting a few words together that making sense; it is more than just being skillful with words, and more about passion.

What drives you?

The first time I picked up a pen to create anything of value to myself was in 2012. I wrote my first poem during that period and I loved it-- the process of creating something out of nothing. It filled me with a sense of joy I had never experienced doing anything else. I could call those badly put words on a sheet of paper my own--my creation. Ever since then I have never looked back.

The second phase of my writing experience began around that period. I began to search for other creative writers like myself and well, a way of earning from my skill. I was not the best but I know I was good. I could defend my poems anywhere because I genuinely felt that what I wrote had substance. I was able to stumble upon a site called poetrysoup (and if you are curious enough you can search the username 'prynczzwonda'), there you will find all my badly written poems. However, I have come a long way since then. Although I sometimes feel my best years as a poet is behind me, I am still confident that I can create decent materials if I put my mind to it.

The whole essence of this story is to show what I was not motivated by financial gains, so my creative process was not impeded by the lack of it. I work for years without earning anything but a few audiences, whom I cherished more than anything in the world. The fact that my work mattered to someone other than myself filled me joy and a sense of fulfillment. However, that has not been the case lately.

Do people care about what you write?

Asides @minismallholding, @nuthman, my friend Lizzy who isn't on steemit, I really don't think anyone reads the things I write. And for the first time in my life this seems not to matter and sadly I'm not the only one who feels that way.

On https://musing.io I asked a similar question and got a similar response to mine There is a certain indifference towards what we put up on here. As long as the upvotes are rolling then it doesn't matter. And we argue here a lot of times about value and quality when in reality no one really gives a f**k. And it is evident, our trending section is proof.

Good to see that the steem ecosystem is decentralized and we are creating different niches for people with a different appetite to consume what they like. I believe that's the best way to go and the only true way to move this blockchain forward.

Back to the question: do you think people care about the things you post here? If no then why do you keep posting? Because if that's the case your content, no matter the quality, can be categorized as a shitpost because no one cares about them.

I seek an audience outside the confines of this platform but it is hard because of the content I create are mostly about things related to this platform. I want what I write to matter and it is more than just earning a dollar per post.

what's money without happiness?
Or had timed without the people you love.

In my case, what's a writer without an audience? I know things will change as my stake increase, but I don't plan to create content that long. There is a phase everyone with longterm plans will undergo here. I will discuss this in another post.

I want you to think about your journey on this platform and what you hope to achieve. If earning coins is your major objective, fine. There are many ways you can go about it other than creating and putting together meaningless words which you know has no impact.

We are not all writers

I read, and I write. :)

I am, though, fully aware that most people on the platform do not read --they skim, or stay in their circles. When I first started posting here, I was petrified. I needed everything to be absolutely perfect! I soon realised that it didn't quite matter so much because only one or two people would read it anyway.

As for the act of writing itself - I write because I NEED to write, I would be empty if I were not writing, and the main thing after the actual act of writing, is hoping that someone out there, at least one person, will read and enjoy it.

There may be some who read, but don't respond, but probably not many. I've often wondered if that will change once we come out of beta and more people come onboard. I'm not sure how it will, though.

I link my homestead posts to a facebook page, so I might get a few more reads there, but not upvotes because they don't use Steemit.

I'm sure I was going to say more, but I'm too tired and can't think straight, so I'm off to bed...
