Seed pods
A while ago, I posted about Wild Garlic which has now set seed and the pods have already opened on many of the plants. These seeds are just in time for the rainy season, which has finally started and the seeds will have a chance to germinate and grow for a full season before winter comes and they go dormant. The Spring rains have come rather late this year, due to a lingering El Nino effect although fortunately, we haven't yet gone into a full-blown drought even though we have experienced some bad heat waves, especially last week.
I collected some seed from these plants and I will sow it now and hopefully get some little garlic plants. I'll report back later on whether it is any good in cooking. I really like these tiny, weird little flowers, here's another picture of them for good measure. They're also difficult to photograph well due to their tiny size.
When I lived in Russia, we always barely wild garlic, we really liked it!
In stores for sale it was not.
It was sold only at the market.
I also want this garlic ...
Surely you can get seeds to grow?
I do not have wild garlic seeds, but if there were, then I would try to germinate them.
In my childhood I also loved to collect wild garlic. It seemed to us at the time so delicious. We took black bread, sprinkled it a little with salt and ate it with tufts of garlic
Bread, garlic and salt. Who needs more than that?
Such cool pods!!
#drystuff :)
Damn, I forgot that tag! How could I?
I have no idea :D
Good luck with your Wild Garlic growing. :-)
Thank you!
I hadn't heard of wild garlic, even though I am crazy for garlic and love the taste. Does it taste like regular garlic? My brother grows russian garlic so we get to enjoy it in a lot of our meals.
It's similar, without the stinky after-taste. I'll report back on this one when I have grown some
