It is an honor to be able to grow and produce the ginger and turmeric powder that I use as spice at home. Trying out new things can be fun.

Last year, during farming season, I decided to include ginger and turmeric. I had not grown them before but I had attended some workshops and trainings in the past during my service as an n-power/n-agro beneficiary. I was exposed to a lot of agricultural trainings and of which one is how to grow turmeric and ginger and finally turning them into powder. The training took place 2017/2018 and since then, I had not been able to practice those things I learned, at least, not all.

Last year's farming season became a turning point in my life as I decided to challenge myself. I wasn't sure if I will get it right but I just had to try. I still have the training fresh in my mind.

I just carved out a small portion of land for turmeric and ginger, tilled the space and planted the turmeric and ginger roots that I had bought from the market.

I reported the planting in two of my diaries last year, diary one and diary two

You can imagine how happy I am to practice those things and see them yeah positive results.

I was so happy to see the crops grow, I watched in admiration as the Almighty helps to water them and helped them grow.

harvest time

Well, as time went by, I almost forgot that I planted turmeric and ginger in that farm. The reason is because I didn't visit the farm often especially after harvesting the maize and pumpkin I had planted alongside.

But this year when my building project was about to begin and the land needed to be cleared, I quickly remembered the turmeric and ginger and the portion of the land I had planted them.

I went straight to that location but I couldn't see anything because the leaves had dried up. But because I was very sure of the location, I dug the ground and guess what? I saw the roots.

Wow! My happiness knew no bounds. Just take a look at the picture. Remember that I just tried it out and as such, I didn't plant much quantity. Just the ones on abut 1.5 steem which I spent. But just take a look at the quantity that came out and the joy that followed can not be measured.

My neighbors around came and we're marveled too. I gave them some to use. It was a first harvest and I rejoiced greatly. It was then that the thought of making them into powder came fresh again in my mind and told myself that I was going to try it out.

producing the powder

This has to do with changing the fresh ginger and turmeric into powdered form. The spices were harvested fresh and to change them to powder, I followed the following steps

👉Step 1

I washed the roots thoroughly, making sure that all sand and debris are removed. I then peeled off the skin and cut into tiny sizes

👉Step 2

I spread the tiny sizes on a flat plat in a way that no one was lying on any one. I took them outside for sun-drying. Thank goodness that it was still sunny season then, and just within 2 days, they were already dried up and ready for grinding

👉Step 3

I thought of going to the market to grind them but I remembered that my blender at home could be able to grind it as it usually grind something more tougher. And that was another joy. I didn't have to go to the market before getting my powder ready for use. I dashed into the kitchen and did the grinding and the result was amazing!

First, I grinded the turmeric first as it was the biggest but without remembering that it is a coloring agent, capable of changing the ginger color. But when I grinded the ginger, the color it gave it wasn't bad at all.

I loved it though not the original color. But in few minutes time, I was done with the grinding and my turmeric and ginger powder were ready for use. Wow! Happiness overload!

conclusion

It feels good to grow your own food and process them. It gives happiness without bounds. With these at home, I can add it to my foods as spices, use the ginger as tea and so on. Try it out and experience the same joy or even more. Thank you all for reading through. I believe I have inspired someone 😀

you all for reading through.

Oh wow! What an interesting post!
Blogger, builder and farmer. Well done!
I love using ginger and turmeric in my food when I am cooking.
I normally buy the whole ginger roots and then I grate them with a grater over my food. I'm definitely going to put them in the grinder next time.

Ginger and turmeric are very good and healthy spices. I love them too. Grating them when they are fresh is also good. I can't wait to see you try out this one. Thank you for your nice comment my friend
