This is another of the simple news aggregation posts that I've been occasionally making as I encounter a confluence of new activity and articles on the subject in the title as I am looking through many news sources. In this particular case this is Climate Change, the Green New Deal, and may have some overlap with any Socialist related news since that ties heavily into both topics.

There are certain issues for which leftists often invoke the magic label of “science” in order to shut down debate. From abortion to evolution to socialism itself, progressives love to pretend to be the party of science by throwing out “facts” and instantly doing a mic drop.

But there’s no other topic for which leftists invoke their higher scientific understanding than climate change. If you don’t believe that man is responsible for the changes in the weather, you might as well declare leeches are the best way to clean the blood of sick people because you’re going to be labeled anti-science by leftists either way.

Guess where the biggest volcanic eruption of 2018 was? Hint (not Hawaii)

There have been voluminous headlines, photos, and video describing eruptions on Hawaii’s Kilaueua in 2018, and while they were visually impressive, when it comes to potentially climate altering sulfur dioxide, those eruptions pale in comparison to another Pacific volcano.

NASA Earth observatory writes:

While Kilauea dominated headlines last year, the largest explosive eruption of 2018 occurred 5,600 kilometers (3,500 miles) to the southwest on Ambae, a volcanic island in Vanuatu. The Manaro Voui volcano spewed at least 400,000 tons of sulfur dioxide into the upper troposphere and stratosphere during its most active phase in July, and a total of 600,000 tons in 2018. That was three times the amount released from all combined eruptions in 2017.

How Perception of Fossil Fuel Futures Have Evolved

A couple decades ago an international team of volcanologists arranged for the tag-on launch of a first generation orbiting gravimeter in order to study volcanism (the legitimate auspicious being pure scientific endeavor). While that intended function was successful, a much more important capability unexpectantly came to pass. Subsequent generations of these devices showed exactly where and to what extent natural gas, oil and coal were located as they have revealed progressively higher resolution images of Earth’s deep interior. Several more generations of these devices are possible and this explains the recent substantial increases in estimated recoverable oil and gas and coal for that matter. Meanwhile, fracking and horizontal drilling have enormously reduced the costs and surface-area-impact of fossil fuel recovery.

In the 1920’s we believed, quite honestly, that there were only 5, maybe 10 more years of recoverable oil. The simplistic plan was to make hay while the Sun shined…the economy was rocking.

And in spite of continuing significant increases in consumption, in the 1930’s we still believed that there were 5, maybe 10 more years of recoverable oil.

This same thinking continued to be true in the 1940’s. But with a regular stream of new oil finds occurring, there was the suggestion that maybe oil recovery innovation could keep the Sun shining on this growing oil consuming activity for some time to come.

Achieving the Paris Agreement global warming target could protect millions of tonnes in annual worldwide fisheries catch, as well as billions of dollars of annual revenues for fishers, workers’ income and household seafood expenditures, according to new research from the University of British Columbia.

The study, released today in Science Advances, compared the ecosystem and economic impacts of the Paris Agreement warming scenario of 1.5 degrees Celsius to the current “business as usual” 3.5 C warming scenario. The researchers concluded that achieving the Paris Agreement would result in benefits for 75 per cent of maritime countries, with the largest gains being made in developing countries.

The Fake Popularity Of Socialism

As I’ve asserted previously, the election of Donald Trump to the office of president in 2016 was a popular mandate against socialist policies. Specifically, it was a mandate against the socialist policies of Barack Obama, but since it has become quite clear that voters at large had such an affinity for the former president that they were reticent to associate him with his abysmal policies, we’ll leave him out of it for the time being. For the purposes of our discussion, it’s actually just as well that the issues at hand remain impersonal.

Since Trump’s election, we have seen a doubling-down (if not a tripling-down) in the advancing of socialism by those most dedicated to its implementation, these being hard-left activists, congressional Democrats and elements of the establishment press. Now, these groups represent a distinct minority of Americans, yet through their vociferousness, they tend to impart the impression that half the electorate is screaming for a socialist America.

As an aside, they’ve also used the same methodology to give the impression that at least half our population self-identifies as part of the LGBTQ community, despite this group accounting for less than 4 percent of the population.

While voters may not have been able to qualify their distress in the above terms when they voted for Trump in 2016, the referenced distress was sufficiently severe that for the first time in our nation’s history, Americans voted for a president who was completely outside the political establishment. This fact cannot be overstated.

State Warning: Catastrophic Volcanic Eruptions In California Are ‘Inevitable’

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has warned that California’s next big catastrophe might not be a massive earthquake. Instead, they say a massive volcanic eruption could plunge the state into a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

In a report released on Monday, the USGS said that at least 10 volcanic eruptions have taken place in the past 1,000 years and that “future volcanic eruptions are inevitable.” The USGS has previously said that California in dire need of the monitoring of at least 8 active volcanoes.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to twitter to accuse a journalist of stalking her. Only problem, the person she accused of stalking her was 100% NOT stalking her. In fact he was publicly mocking someone who appeared to be.

Study: Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal Would Cost Over $600,000 Per Household in the United States

The study explains that the “heart of the GND is an effort to curb carbon emissions and thus to slow climate change, but the package contains a wide set of other policy proposals that are not directly linked to climate policy: a job guarantee, food and housing security, and a variety of social justice initiatives.”

Since much of the GND is extremely vague, the study focused on the proposals for:

1. A 10-year transition to an exclusively low-carbon energy electricity grid;
2. Enough high-speed rail transit available that air travel becomes unnecessary;
3. Guaranteeing union jobs with a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations, and retirement security to all people of the United States;
4. Universal health care;
5. Guaranteed housing for every American; and
6. Food security for every person in the United States.

The Free Beacon reports that the American Action Forum calculated guaranteed green housing would cost between $1.6 trillion and $4.2 trillion; a federal jobs guarantee between $6.8 trillion and $44.6 trillion; a net zero emissions transportation system between $1.3 trillion and $2.7 trillion; a low-carbon electricity grid for $5.4 trillion; and “food security” for $1.5 billion.

Green New Deal? Biggest US City To Go ‘100 Percent Renewable’ Lost Millions On Solar, Wind Contracts

As Congress debates the Green New Deal resolution to transition the U.S. economy to “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions, a Texas town struggles under the growing financial burden of going green.

Georgetown has spent $30 million since it began its transition to 100 percent renewable energy in 2016, and, now, city officials are lashing out at local reporters and a conservative think tank for scrutinizing the cost to taxpayers.

“The entire 100 percent renewable claim is misleading,” Bill Peacock, vice president of research conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

US CO2 Emissions Cuts Are The ‘Largest In The History Of Energy,’ IEA Chief Says

Over the last decade, the U.S. has been the largest cutter of carbon dioxide emissions in the “history of energy,” said Fatih Birol, the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

“In the last 10 years, the emissions reduction in the United States has been the largest in the history of energy,” Birol said at a press conference in Washington, D.C., Thursday, standing alongside U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry.

California Utility Put Off Power Line Maintenance For Years Before Deadly Wildfire

California’s largest utility for years neglected to repair the aging power line thought to have sparked the state’s deadliest wildfire ever in 2018, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Pacific, Gas & Electric (PG&E) proposed repairs to the Caribou-Palermo line that runs near the town of Paradise in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, according to filings with state regulators reviewed by WSJ. In the last filing, the company projected the repairs to begin in June 2018. The work never started.

The power line malfunctioned 18 minutes before the Camp Fire ignited. PG&E says its line is the “probable” cause of the wildfire, according to court filings Thursday reviewed by Bloomberg. CNN has been accused of ambushing Bernie Sanders and tricking viewers by passing off Democratic political operatives as everyday people during a Monday evening town hall as part of his campaign for the 2020 election. Internet sleuths looked into the backgrounds of those asking Sanders various questions - most of which could be considered fair game to ask a presidential candidate, only to find that there was more than meets the eye as noted by Paste Magazine.

For example, Sanders was asked a tough question about allegations of sexual harassment on his 2016 campaign by "American University Student" Shadi Nasab. What CNN didn't mention is that she's also an intern for a large D.C. lobbying firm, Cassidy & Associates.

Well, they may think they know what Sanders stands for… The problem, of course, is that hardcore leftists reside in an echo chamber which has, through harassment and violence, shielded itself from any ideas or arguments that sit outside their very close knit, media supported narratives.

How much would a Green New Deal cost? That’s the $93 trillion question some media outlets won’t ask.

New estimates suggest the price tag of the climate and economic ideas contained in the Green New Deal promoted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could cost $93 trillion, Bloomberg.com reported. That’s a very green deal, indeed. However, the evening newscasts ignored the new information about the Green New Deal the day the American Action Forum released its cost estimate as well as the day after (Feb. 25 and 26).
