Hitting the Brakes
The other day I got what seems to be another transfer of .001 Steem to promote something that I would normally not be interested in. We have all gotten these and no typically not to pay attention to the message attached. However, this time around I found an interesting tool that has made me realize something important about my engagement on the echo system. This has been of particular interest to me as I have been struggling to remain as active as I want to be by engaging on a timely basis with my feed every day.
The name of the website is Steem Detective and it basically downloads all of the data on the blockchain related to your account. That includes all transfers votes both incoming and outgoing. In total, I have more than 65,000 transactions in a little over 13 months on the ecosystem. While most of it has come through votes I have almost half as much comments made on the blockchain as well. However, what has interested me the most is how active I have become since October of last year. This was purposeful as it correlated with the latest down trend of the price of Steem where I wanted to be more intense about accumulating as much steam as I can during this period.
Screenshot from Steem Detective Website
I am averaging over 300 transactions per day. This is more than double than what I was doing during summer of last year which is where I would say I started to get more engaged with the platform. At that time I dedicated myself to make at least one post per day in order to remain consistent with the community. While I have been able to continue to do so, it has become more difficult for me to prepare for these post on a daily basis. Until now I have preferred to focus on comments instead of my post. However, I feel that I am rewarded more for my comments than the content I create. I don’t have an issue with that fact as it only encourages me to improve on my content but during the phases when I am busy, I feel more pressured and anxious to get my post out.
Another source of data that I have been tracking is my screentime on my phone which is now my primary source of engaging with the community thanks to @partiko. While I have been making strides to reduce the amount of time spent, I think I still need to do some more. While over the last couple of days this has improved, it has been more due to my workload at the office rather than my willingness to not be on the phone. That is proven by the amount of time I am spending on the phone after hours. I don’t think this is sustainable for me in the future so I want to start setting expectations mostly for myself when it comes to engagement.
Therefore, I am writing this post to let the community know that while I will continue to make the effort to post on a daily basis, my activity will certainly go down against what has been the last couple of weeks. However, given the utility of the application that I am using, I will get to all of the relevant post that I follow but with a larger lag. For example, I typically respond or comment about an hour or two after the original post. Now, that may be a couple of hours in between. I have noticed during these last couple days that that delay in engagement has not impacted my ability to interact with others as they have been very diligent in responding to my comments on a timely basis. I really appreciate that and I think it demonstrates how relationships are created throughout the community as we all understand the dynamic situations of our every day lives.
These subtle changes will allow me to focus on areas of my life that will ultimately help me be even better in the ecosystem. I will ensure that I spend time with my family which inspires me to have new experience that I will be able to share here. It would also allow me to continue earning enough to continue my investment in steam which I intend to become my largest invested assets. I am hoping that these changes do not impact the trend of growth I have been able to see for my account over the last couple of months. I continue to be encouraged by the potential of what this could become for my future endeavors. please take this as more of an informational post to understand that while you may see me less often, it is not because of lack of motivation or encouragement on the platform. I continue to look forward to engaging with all of you and all of the exciting things that we have in store for the community over the coming months.

I just found you on @chbartist’s list which I have been making my way through each time I read one of his posts. I have found some interesting people to follow but I have found that as one’s list of people followed grows, one seems to miss many of the posts. When I am prompted to be reminded of Steemers I have not seen a post from for a while, I look them up and check out their blog that way as the feed is just not showing them to me. I wonder how the people with hundreds of followed Steemers get around this problem.
I will check out the steem detective app you mentioned, it may be of help to keep a closer eye on what is going on in the community. I have been trying to post more often but posts take a considerable time to compile compared to writing comments, so I probably do more commenting than posting. I have noticed however that some comments are not always acknowledged and I am not sure if this is because the post is already a day or two old when I reach it, or some other reason. I always try to respond to my comments as I am so thrilled every time I get one so upvote it and reply to them.
Since powering up my account I have a small stipend to give when I upvote so this has really made me feel like I have some worth to others when I interact, small though it is but if I keep investing a little every few weeks my account will grow.
Nice to meet you I enjoyed reading your post, appreciate the effort you look like you are putting into this platform.🙏
Often many forget to check older posts and their comments but many have found ways to be alerted when someone comments on their posts to go back and review. I use the Steemify app from the @blockbrothers and it helps me very much. Others use @ginabot from Discord. Commenting is important as I am not always able to find people to follow through my feed and often find them when engaging in different comment section on posts.

I love the adventure discovering new communities and people.thanks for the tips for the apps I’ll check em out🙂
That actually does sound like an Interesting tool. I normally ignore those posts as well. Maybe I should look a little harder at them. I also agree that I typically am rewarded more for my comments than my posts, except the times that I'm lucky and a curation trail notices me. But commenting also creates a community which I think is what will ultimately keep this site going :) I think that's it's good to step away from the site once in a while and just spend time with family and people we are close to. I agree that @partiko helps make time spent engaging with the platform easier and more efficient.
It is definitely a great site with data that can be used to explore how to better benchmark your results.
As I consider my options, I want to ensure I remain present as much as I can because I also enjoy it most of the time.

Yeah real life always come first and it can be hard on a platform such as this to walk away when you need to sometimes, it does allow for new ans exciting posts from those experiences with friends and family.
Thanks for sharing that website. It has a ton of great information in there and when I get back on my laptop I plan on digging more into it.

Agree! I hope to eventually share more about experiences! I have been considering to get anothee account just to post pictures and quick thoughts as I experience new places or events! Let’s see of I can get there one day!

The plus side is that since the price of STEEM dropped so much that it is far easier to accumulate SP and to be noticed by active steemians. Before the drop I was getting no where fast and struggling to get more than a couple of people to notice anything that i was putting out there. The payouts might still be small but the SP grows every day for the people still using the chain. I'm sure that you have been seeing a lot of it too since you are such an active person on here.
1 Steem is 1 Steem so that is what matters! Keep it growing!

Exactly. I remember starting off and the struggle to earn every steem so I still think on those lines.
