I AM YOUR HAIRDRESSER - an Original Documentary about the Unseen Culture of Hair

Hello Steemians!

I want to share an exclusive look of a documentary project with you, that I helped produce with my colleague and best friend - Monica Marteau of French Cut Hair, in Portland Oregon.

Our original idea was was to tell a story through Monica's point of view. Later, we discovered, as documentaries would go, that the concept behind the culture of hair is indeed deeper than what we initially expected.

For this project, we were able to self-fund our way through Europe with only two cameras and a lot of determination. After meeting and interviewing with pretty amazing people, we came home with much more than what we originally expected. Mid-way through our shoot, however, we came back to Portland from New York to find that the unspeakable happened: Our main back-up hard drive malfunctioned after dumping the rest of the footage.

Luckily, we had four back-ups of all of our previous footage since Europe, but our New York (and Portland) footage was unrecoverable. We returned to New York a second time to redo the interviews, however, we were then hit with financial 'setbacks' that cut right into our marketing and editing budget. (Since then, back-up redundancy measures have become quite an obsession of ours.)

I spoke with Monica earlier this week, and shared about raising additional funds through Steemit to make this documentary partially funded with crypto-currency. When we thought about it, we agreed to at least give back in a certain way. Right now, we have a GoFundMe page in the hope that we will collect enough funds to complete this documentary, and have a premiere by Spring of 2017. Our plan is to submit the film to Festivals, push it toward distribution and then move forward to our next film projects for 2020.
