Yes, I do find the auto-voting feature of steem-ua, and the points from followers are not fair. I have read lots of people who post high-quality content but were struggled to get upvotes because they do not have enough followers.
For Smartvote, they upvote manually by checking through your comment daily. If you have spare SP, I do suggest to give it a try; it works with as little as 30 SP, I think.
Thanks for that! I will go and have a read. For me, it's always the manual curation that's key and like you said, there are so many great writers on here who don't get the visiability or reward simply because they're not in the 'old boys network'!!
