Do Not Purchase an Oculus Rift S!!!

It's bad, mmmmkay!

The quest is good but I will not be buying one do to the fail support I experienced with the Rift S!

The rift s was not ready and it is a pure 100% POS!!!!!

Buyer be warned! Don't get this tech!!!

Spend more money on a Valve Index!

Don't get me wrong. When the rift s is working it is fantastic!!!! But it rarely works and it is super picky and well. Lets just say you will not like it once you add in the amount of troubleshooting time you spend with it....

I finally sent it back yesterday. Had to, no resolution from tech support, they closed my support ticket and the return window was closing soon. Sad. I did enjoy it overall, but the snow/static issue was unbearably annoying. That subtle kind of thing that bothers you, you end up thinking about it constantly even when it's not happening, because you are waiting for it to happen.... and then the terrible lack of support for playing non vr games in a VR theater. You just can't do it.... Doesn't work. Even though an oculus go can handle it. lol

I would have kept it, if it weren't for the static/snow issue, the vr gaming theater issue is something I am sure will be resolved via software eventually. But I think I had faulty hardware, the cable or cable connection on the headset specifically, and tech support dropped the ball.... Not gonna get stuck with a lemon, Maybe I repurchase from Best Buy where I can return it easier than from Amazon and see if I have same problems with another headset...

If you only want to play full vr experience games, you will probably be happy with this. If you want to do vr desktop, or development, or anything 3rd party, I don't think you will enjoy this product...

I discovered the root of the problem!!!

when and if you experience the jitter/jutter/shadows effect I speak of. Open the oculus debug tool in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics
and change the asynchronous spacewarp to ASW Disabled!!!! Clearly what is going on here is a frame rate desync/mismatch! The rift is 90 hertz hence why it has the 45fps setting there for async, but the rift s is 80 hertz and thus should be using a 40fps setting!!!! This is a huge oversight by the rift s team and a result of skimping on our hardware and going 80 hertz! After adjusting this setting I have had no further issues other than still needing this USB hub! I am very on the fence about keeping this product or not. It is nice but it is not nice at the same time lol.... But now that I know what is causing it the effect I was seeing actually makes sense too...

So in all fairness, I am on the fence with returning it. It is still doing the static snow flicker and needs the specific usb port and powered hub which is ridiculous, but it's still nice when it is working lol.... but the lack of support and FB censorship issues... I'm really on the fence here.....

new firmware update fixes all of the problems except for the occasional flicker of static/snow and needing that powered hub....

heres an example of one of the issues. there are more...

in fairness, I did find several work around to make it work and have had it working all day finally. But the setup is not cool. I will post more about it later when I feel like it lol....
