Steemit is an economy purely based on whales voting

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I've tried to post a few "stories" on Steemit, and even the one that got lot of comments and almost 40 votes in 6 hours didn't make more than 70 cts.

Why is that ? Because Steemit economy is only based on whales voting, if a whale (a big user with a lot of STEEM POWER) don't vote you up, your post will make you nothing in return, or in the best case scenario, 1 or 2 dollars. And for that i guess you are going to need 50 to 100 votes of normal users.

What does that mean ? If you post on a subject that don't appeal to the big users, who are mostly tech geek nerds cryptomaniacs, you won't get rewarded at all. Of course, they are rewarding a lot of "useless" posts to get the platform going, because without them, you won't even be making 1 dollar with your posts.

What to do ? Post on cryptocurrencies and on geek stuff, or post emotional things, pictures of your dautgher in your arms, logos of SteemIt all around and a beautiful story on how is going to change your life. This is the only way to get a whale vote and earn something here today.

Of course, exceptions do exist and some useful posts are also being rewarded, but think of it, how many big whales are on this site ? Not so many, how many new posts per day ? Many more everyday, they won't be able to see them all and soon even a post that normally would appeal a whale vote won't appeal anything else than normal users votes.

I know some very wealthy commercial salesmen who called on a thousand companies before they got their first large order.

Some novelists write a dozen or more books before they produce something memorable (to the public, not themselves).

Suck it up buttercup.

I don't think you're giving the Whales much credit. From what I've seen, they're pretty good at up-voting good, interesting content. Sure, there's a bit of luck associated with it; however, I'm a believer good content will win in the end.

Each time the whales upvote a non whale they turn a Minnow into a Tilapia :]

interesting point, hope that changes over time

You get an upvote from me for your analysis (Y) You're right, this system is based on whales and it might not be the best this way, but still, everyone should post what they enjoy most!

Your post is the best that i've seen on this site, but the problem is, people don't wan't to see good posts with good arguments but whaleporn.

I think the whale vote is also a fact but whenever you post a rich unique content post and many people show the interest in your post by reading and viewing it then you generate the revenue not by just upvote.

Is there a way to find out a list of whales and dolphins?

Yes, i don't remember where is the list, but someone posted it.

Oh great, thank you :)

What You will vote as a whale??? Imagine yourself investing tons of money here.
It make sense that good Steemit related posts are voted by whales. They want to engage the community in this venture. Like I have seen a post of a guy who made an ad-don for a browser. Or another one who want to put Steemit on billboards. The platform need more and more people to engage so will succeed. Those people need some rewards to continue their voluntary work.
Please do not blame the whales. Instead imagine being one. Accommodate with whale thinking. Prepare yourself for the moment when you will join them.
Good luck to You on your journey to become big&blue :)

If i was a whale i would do the same thing, but that's not a good thing, as i'm very business oriented. I would do my maximum to make a lot of money and to control all of this stuff, as they are doing right now. And that's not something, as a user that i would love.
