Hello, Ladies of Steemwomen Club,

My greetings to all of you. Hope you are safe and good. I am writing this post to take part in the Local Dress contest arranged by @steemwomensclub. When I came across the announcement of this competition, I decided to present Saree as my local traditional as well as the cultural dress to all the women over here in the Steemwomen club.

Every person who has origin in South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, or Sri Lanka knows about Saree. I have also seen many western women celebrities and international tourists embracing Saree while on tour in India.

Saree is considered the most iconic dress code for women in India. The feminine beauty reflects at its best when some gorgeous lady drapes a saree.

To familiarise you in detail with Saree I am explaining to you what exactly is it in easier words.

Saree is an unstitched piece of cloth that varies from 4 to 10 meters when it comes to length and 24 to 27 inches in breadth. Sare is usually worn with a petticoat and a blouse.

Although there are hundreds of different popular as well as lesser-known traditional styles of draping a saree among different ethnicities and states of India, it is most commonly draped over a petticoat and blouse. There are other draping styles too that don't require wearing these mentioned things.

I am from the Eastern state of West Bengal, India, and here we have different famous approaches to wearing a saree.
The most well versed among all these is the "Thakur Bari Style" which is well accepted in other parts of India and has been depicted in various Indian films to represent Bengali women.

Along with West Bengal, our neighbor Bangladeshi ladies also embrace saree on special occasions, especially on Bengali New Year. We ladies in West Bengal, wear it at various Hindu religious and cultural events.
Enough about general information let's talk about me now.

To be honest, I have started wearing a saree in 2019 only. I wasn't very much confident with managing myself in a saree so I never gave it a try before that time. I drape it on special occasions such as weddings, events at home, religious auspicious ceremony and festivals. Since then, I wear it around 4-5 times a year.

The price of saree may vary between INR 150(Indian Rupees) or around 2.1 USD to thousands and even millions of rupees depending on the quality of the cloth, rarity, availability, type of fiber, longevity, style, origin, design, and various other factors. You could find your favourite one in any price range. Just pick it according to your own budget.

This was me wearing a saree for the first time.

Before wearing it you must have a blouse and petticoat that fits you otherwise, the experience could be uncomfortable. A subtle light makeup, accessories such as wristlet, bangles, earrings, and a bindi goes fine with a saree.

If you are interested enough and want to learn how to drape a saree, here is a short Youtube video by YouTuber Tia Bhuva for you.

This is a group picture of my friends including me taken back on February 15th, 2021 at an annual festive meet in our school.

Saree is an inevitable and integral part of our culture and tradition since ancient times. The tradition of draping sarees goes back to 2500 BCE from Harappa Civilization. India is a country with the oldest continuous civilizational values, customs, and traditions which truly makes me immensely proud of my roots. Among our cuisine, music, dance forms, folklores, and clothes, Saree symbolizes womanhood and individuality.

Thanks for investing your valuable time to get this far through my post. I am a newcomer in Steemit and looking for support from fellow steemers. Your engagement is really appreciated.
I am adding my Achievemnet 1 post link for you to know me better. :D

Thanks to the curators and organizers for such a great contest idea. We will be seeing a glimpse of different cultures, stories through this initiative.

peace to all of you and keep steeming.
