Sam Aaron - live coder, plus My Actifit Report Card: November 11 2019

This evening I went to see a presentation by Sam Aaron hosted by Code Club Australia and muru-d (Telstra’s startup incubator). Sam Aaron is the creator of Sonic Pi. I hadn’t heard of Sam or Sonic Pi until I got the invitation. A quick google search was enough for me to decide that I wanted to accept the invite. A couple of years ago I used to regularly attend the Code Club meetups and I also ran a lunchtime code club at my school. Sadly that’s fallen by the wayside. I’d like to get back into it but it is difficult in such a busy school to fit it in. Also a couple of years ago I was doing some interesting stuff with aspects of mathematics in music with my students. It was super-fun and this led to me presenting the work with some colleagues at a maths conference and then to pre-service teachers at Sydney Uni. So Sam and his work with Sonic Pi are right up my alley. He literally codes live to make music with the software he developed! I highly recommend you check out some of his videos on YouTube. I’m really keen to have a play with Sonic Pi (the tricky part is finding the time - there’s a lot going on at the moment).
