Unforgettable Day Trip to Historical Town of Bath & World Famous Stonehenge

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

This year we decided that as part of our summer holiday, we decided to break from the norm and make a point of exploring sites within the United Kingdom, our home.
The reason for this is that sometimes, we take for granted some of the iconic and historic points of interests are literally on our door step and in our own country, that we never get around/put off from visiting, due to the allure of things to see and do in other far away places and countries.

So as part of this new trend, we set off on a day trip to the historical city of Bath and the world famous Stonehenge and here are some of the photos from our day trip...

Spectacular views of the City of Bath from Victoria Park

Couple of historical facts on the city of Bath:

Has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its beauty and historical significance

After a wonderful few hours touring the city of Bath, we set off on an a hour idyllic drive through the English country side of Wiltshire for our next destination....

Stonehenge!

Stonehenge is considered the world’s most famous prehistoric monument. It was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC.

In the early Bronze Age many burial mounds were built nearby. Today, along with Avebury, it forms the heart of a World Heritage Site, with a unique concentration of prehistoric monuments...

Upon a short 5 minutes shuttle bus drive from the visitor center, we arrived at the Stonehenge site to witness and take photos of this unique and historical monument, which I heard and read so much about as a little boy...

Here are selection of photos taken from different angles around the Stonehenge monument

The visit lasted about hour and a half around the Stonehenge site, in which time I had the opportunity to see this unique historical monument in all it's glory and splendor

So after a long and unforgettable day taking in the City of Bath and Stonehenge, it was time to drive back home to London.

The day trip was truly memorable and reaffirmed our belief to explore appreciate places of interests that are literally stone throw away from us in our own country and which millions of tourists flock to the UK for the same experience :)
