How We Make Colloidal Silver

Disclaimer:
I'm sharing here something that I do, my experiences and information I've come across. I make no claim to be an expert or even knowledgeable in this area and as always, I'd encourage you to do your own research and not just take my word for things. There is conflicting information out there and I have taken on what makes sense to me.

Colloidal silver can be purchased from health food shops in Australia, but it tends to be quite expensive and when you see the price of the equipment to make it it's not too surprising. However, if you make it yourself it can actually end up costing just cents for a glass full.

Making a Silver Machine!

Making colloidal silver is basically electrolysis. This is a simple machine that my husband made. The batteries we used are 9v so connecting three of them together in series makes 27v, although ours might be a bit lower as we use rechargeable batteries and they're not usually as high a voltage. There's one wire going from the positive and one from the negative. These are soldered on to 9v battery connectors which were salvaged from an old radio, but they can be connected in other ways.

He's then connected them at the other end to two buttons which open up when you press them to slot in the silver wire. You could also use crocodile/alligator clips to hold the silver.

Once the wires are in the water the circuit is completed and it will flow from negative to positive. You'll know if its working if you see bubbles forming on the negative wire.

Hopefully you can see the bubbles forming on the left wire

The frame is just to hold the batteries and suspend the wires above the water.

The Right Ingredients:

Colloidal silver is just water with suspended silver particles, but you need to make sure that's all it is. If you have any contaminants then you'll be adding compounds you shouldn't be consuming. So I'd highly recommend using fine silver that is 999 quality. I got fine silver wire from an online jewellery metals supplier. I got quite a large length because the price per gram worked out better, but I've hardly used any over the years, so it goes a long way.

With regards to water, avoid tap water, it has way too many contaminants. If you start the process going and the water starts turning cloudy white, then there are contaminants. Colloidal silver should be clear. Just to give you an idea of how easy it is for contaminants to be present, I cleaned the jar for these photos with tap water and forgot to rinse it with distilled water before using. Almost immediately the wire started to give off white clouding. The only water I've found not to react this way is distilled, but apparently some demineralised waters can be good enough. I think R.O. (reverse osmosis) water can also work.

Method:

A simple machine like this won't produce the highest quality of colloidal silver. You can buy machines that are better designed for getting a high amount of micro-particles per volume, but they aren't cheap. To try and get the best from our little machine I place the silver wires as far apart as I can to cover as much water volume as possible. Rotating the jar whenever possible will also help to cover more water area. If you put the wires closer together it will seem to finish the process quicker, but will mostly have just affected the small area of water between the wires.

You'll know to stop the process as soon as you see yellow clouding coming from the positive wire. I gather that this means the particles are getting larger and are now visible to the naked eye. Ideally you should stop before this happens. It usually takes about an hour for our little set up, a bit longer if the batteries are getting low.

Cautions:

The silver machine I've shown you is too low on power to be dangerous, so the cautions come more from how you make your colloidal silver. If the particles get to big then they are less easily absorbed and more likely to cause argyria. This is why I prefer my colloidal silver to be clear and not overly yellow.

seems interesting, is there any official studies done on it?

I haven't actually looked. Could be interesting to find out.
