Words
I’ve loved words all this while;
they’ve been my real guardians &
I’ve spent innumerable nights
counting on them as my 3 am friend.
All along, I craved conversation with people and I always found tricks to get them to spill the beans. “Tell me what you like about the sky? What’s your ideal day like?”
Silly questions befriended my curiosity-
words are nice, you see?
But tonight, I don’t want words.
I want silence.
I want you to be at the front porch &
keep quiet.
I want you to be overwhelmed,
short of words, out of breath, teary eyed, sincerely overjoyed, incredibly safe &
entirely mine.
Like I said, words are nice but
your silence appeals to my bones.
It rattles me.
There’s noise all around us.
Don’t you see them laughing?
And those people cribbing?
Don’t you see you’re nothing like them?
I’m here at the front porch with you.
Let me in.
I’ll hold your hand and
I’ll be quiet too.
