Keep The Home Fires Burning...
Oh What a Beautiful (if frosty and chilly) Morning!
This morning’s chores: cats, dogs and fish and then back to bed for half an hour! I love weekends and holidays! Not that I don’t go back to bed when @s0u1 is at work, but shh! Don’t tell him.
The main chore this morning was to make the fire – we didn’t have one yesterday as we were out and about all day and some of the evening – but boy! Did it drop cold late on.
I made the fire with one of the last logs we had in the house and then set about getting the wood stores re-stocked.
Last year I had two huge cupboards built on either side of the fireplace and the bottom shelf of each was designated as wood stores for the fire.
The top shelf, bottom cupboard is obviously a cat bed. The blanket is one I made when I was pregnant the first time – 28 years ago! They do last well!
As you can see, the shelf is empty!
Three trugs of logs later:
That should keep us going until the New Year at least!

I didn’t bother painting the wall at the back of the cupboard, I couldn’t see the point.

My back knows I’ve done all that!
Still, the pallet where the wood had been stored prior to this morning can now be re-stocked and covered so when (if) the snow comes this year, we don’t have to go too far to fetch the wood.
Of course, if it gets that cold, I’ll be switching to coal and keeping the fire in all night!

Ah yes ! Getting fire wood ! I will soon be back in the country doing the same thing ! We heated our trailer when I was out there with fire wood 8 years ! My boyfriend is still there and I will move back when our property is more ready that we purchased ! Great reminder , thanks for sharing ! ✌👍😉

Of course, there's another tale in how we got the wood in the first place, over a year ago, but I didn't take pictures of that adventure :)
My boyfriend gets everybody's wood ! Lol ! One year he did over 100 cords , delivered ! And that include ours ! Haha ! He's cut way down now ! Pardon the pun ! Not getting any younger it still does his own at least 4 to 5 cords ! And maybe 10 other people ! We live in the mountains ! Lots of wood but still hard to get now ! Steem on !👍😉

Haha ! He has help with my son now 26 ! They make 170 .00 to 200.00 dollars a cord! But he works a more part time job cleaning logging trucks on weekends so he doesn't do it as much anymore !
