This is the turbo I have on my NEO RB25DET powered Nissan Stagea. Im an opportunist performance car builder, this means I take my time finding parts and scanning the second hand market. Initially I was looking at a Garrett 3071RS or 3076. While I had come across a few the ones I found were considerably expensive at around the $1400aud mark second hand, I would only consider buying them at around $800-$1000 aud.

While searching I came across a HKS 3037s on ebay at $0 dollars and zero bids being sold in Tasmania, Australia. After some back and forth with questions about condition, usage etc. I made an offer which was rejected as he wanted to go to auction, so we went to the bidding war. After all was said and done I got the turbo for $500 shipped which was my offer for the turbo itself… winning. In addition to this I also sold my factory RB25DET OP6 turbo for $400 so it really only cost me $100. The only hitch I had was the flange was the wrong size so I would need an adapter.

Adapter kit

The Highmount manifold plus the adapter caused some clearance issues from the turbo to the block, but with some finesse and adjustments the turbo was fitted with next to zero clearance. As the Units are bolted together and don’t move independently there are no issues as long as it seals where it needs to. I’m fortunate that there is a notch in the front housing exactly where I need it to clear the cam cover and point the outlet in the right direction.

Once the unit was bolted up and running I dove the car out basically on idle out to my tuner, Mark at Unigroup, to have a Nistune computer, 725cc injectors and pump put in and an initial tune. When it was all said and done the first tune netted me 250kw with some mild issues with some of my hardware. After taking care of the hardware issues I wen t back for a touch up tune, the car maxed out at 301kw and was dialled back to 280kw for a safe tune.

At Unigroup

When I was considering my build I said I would be happy with anything above the 230kw mark. This turbo has more than met my expectations and if fact exceeded them. The car is reasonably responsive for an automatic, the car comes on boost nicely and is quite a bit of fun to drive.
