I gotta buy that lotto ticket MAN!

in #satire6 years ago (edited)

I have big plans, big plans. I tell my girl all the time, but she does not get it. She tells me I'm dreaming and I need to keep my feet a little more grounded. But, just like anything else in the word, you gotta aim high or you are simply not going to achieve anything, right? I tell her, listen, one of these days I'm going to win the lotto and everything, absolutely everything is going to change.

You know what she says to me? She insists that I'm not thinking straight, that I'm spending a lot of time worrying about these little numbers and such, but that's because she does not know that method is super accurate. I mean, there are all these people who buy lotto tickets at random like idiots, so I know what she is talking about, but I'm not being random at all, I got a system.

Its real simple, let me explain. First always buy the tickets on Tuesdays, make sure its tuesdays because Tuesdays were named after a Nordic God and that's just good luck right there. I'm feeling like sharing my secrets today, so I've made this little image to help you out too.

So, as you can clearly see, it can't fail. I've thought about this for years and years and I've perfected the system. I have this down to a science. I know what you are thinking, and I will dispel those doubts you may have, because its normal for you to have them.

Why am I not rich yet? Well, first of all.... How would you know? but then again, to be honest, its true. I'm not rich right now, but that's because I've just recently perfected my system. The other issue I think was holding me back was my job, because my boss was always getting mad at me, saying I don't focus enough and I'm not performing well. I don't have time for that, but I can't tell him what I'm doing, he would not understand.

I've been trying some variations also in the last few months, because I want to make sure that I got all the bases loaded you know. So here is what I've been doing, I'll tell you too, because I think you are going to completely understand my logic, its flawless.

I've started to change the fourth number for the amount of dollars I have in my wallet when I leave the house to go buy the lotto tickets. It's perfect, it makes sense because, you gotta buy these cash. I always have some cash to buy them, I'm always ready to be a millionaire.

I got a budget for this, because I'm not irresponsible, not like the gamblers, they have a big problem, I don't. I'm setting aside $120 dollars a week, that's it. That way I can work on a few variations of my theory as well. I know, I know, but it's like with anything in life man, you gotta work hard, you gotta go for it.

I can't tell my girl I'm doing this, she's gonna think I'm wasting my time, but that's because she's completely OK with how our current situation is. I'm not, I've worked really hard to perfect my system, its taken me 17 years to get to where I'am today.

Before you ask... I did not start buying $120 dollars a week of lotto tickets from the beginning, that would have been dumb, you gotta build up to it. Besides, I've just recently gotten a job that allows me to afford that much.

But I know this is the year, I'm going to make it, I'm finally going to be a millionaire.

Disclaimers and Such

I always feel a bit silly having to add these little disclaimers to my experimental writings. Truth be told, I feel like they are not necessary, but past experiences have shown me otherwise. This extremely strange post you just read, is meant as a thought experiment, an usual look into someone with extreme cognitive dissonance who struggles to see the logical flaws in his thinking, even though they should be painfully obvious to everyone.

Why do I write these?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. It might have to do with the fact that I've seen things like this in my life and I like to practice being inside their head for a second. It could be a practice in empathy, it could be curiosity and nothing more. However, it should not be hard for any practitioner of honesty to recognize some human traits in these random characters that are born somewhere in my strange mind.

What has always baffled me about people like Mr. Lotto-One-Day here is the amount of work they put into something that has almost no chances of ever becoming true. I doubt many don't know this fact, but just in case i'll share a little cartoon that says it all.

That might be offensive to some, but to be honest, its a verifiable fact. The lottery was a way to tax the poor. You should not be surprised to learn, that no millionaire plays the lotto. The pool is effectively filled by the poor, and trickles up to the millionaires.

Some graphs to let this thing sink in:

If any of this offends you, I apologize, but trust me, I'm only sharing because I care.

Bwahahahah!
You hit the nail on the funny bone here, mate! Sardonic humour at it best.
I’ve never related to the lottery mentality, but then I don’t relate to any type of financial gambling outlet, like casinos, card games, steemmonsters (haha) etc.
It’s addictive.
The only thing I’m addicted to secretly buying is vinyl records, but then I get hundreds of hours of listening pleasure from them so I can justify it.

I wonder if there’s been studies done about the affects of buying the lottery tickets?
I’d bet that there’s a release of dopamine when they get one.

We all got our little guilty pleasures, but some are unquestionably a loss.

;)

Great post again! 👏👏👏
The best part in my opinion, is the difference between gambling and budgeted spending.

It's money management rule. Being responsible for your own assets, even gambling!! Or playing lotto ;)

I never play lotto, but i believe anything in balance, can be good. Mentally, lotto brings some excitement and joy, if you play it right, the damage would be less and maybe someday.... 😉

You are really funny brother,

make sure its tuesdays because Tuesdays were named after a Nordic God and that's just good luck right there.

You read a lot brother, where you get that line from?

I don't have time for that, but I can't tell him what I'm doing, he would not understand.

You are absolutely right, he would never, he might think you are crazy or being screwed up.

You are really a clown brother like seriously, I can't stop laughing. I thought you won the money? This is not fair, I'm going to tell you wife.

I don't know what to tell you.. hahahaha I got a weird brain! hahah

You see, I'm still laughing and I will never stop doing, this is really amazing brother.

Great post. No need for the disclaimer. It was obvious to me from the beginning. It was funny.
You have to see how people in Venezuela reason to play at the animal lottery, which is the new fashion now . 36 numbers, each assigned to an animal, plus 0 and 00 assigned to dolphin and whale. People bet 8 times a day, every hour from 9 am to 7 pm (with a 2 hour parenthesis). If you get a hen at 9, the rooster is supposed to come next, or sometime during the day. Whale or dolphin follows fish, bull follows cow and vise versa, and so on and so forth.
Then, you have crap like after alligator some feathered animal will pop out, or mouse after elephant. It's crazy. sometimes they get these matches, just because the numbers assigned to those animals have as much a chance as any other.
Yet, their system "works" for them and they spend an obscene amount of money a day, which with our economic crisis is just outrageous. But, the deeper people are in financial struggles the more they are willing to risk, i guess.

You know, some people don't understand the math... and I guess, thats a big part of the problem. However, I don' think that Math Impaired people are hopeless either.

I agree. Sometimes, awareness comes from the most unexpected places and when it is needed most.

So, what you're saying is that buying lottery tickets is a waste of money?
Oh man, you're dashing my hopes and dreams bad, man!
You'll change your thoughts when you see me winning the big prize! It's gonna happen any day now, you just watch!

hahahahaha send me an invitation!!

LOL!! This is waaayy better than I described like a moth or so ago... Thanks for giving it to us with this hilarious alter-ego :-)

Just to re-emphasize the importance behind the humor:

"The odds of winning the lotto are so badly weighted against purchasing a ticket it can be thought as throwing money away. The real value of a $1 purchase is often as low as 32 cents, with the rest of the cost going straight into the profits of the ticket sellers. Those huge profit margins are why governments have increasingly turned to lotteries to raise funds, rather than through direct tax increases."
The Guardian - Sun 16 Feb 2014

You know whats funny my friend, I've tried to "teach" this to people for almost 10 years. Most of the time, i feel like im talking to walls.

They don't get it, or they don't care.

I have never played lotto in my life, except for dice on discord. My mum and brother play at least once a week, and I once told him, you know how much money it is that a year, maybe more you will win if any? Stats are against. My brother, who is a gentle heart and overall happy go lucky person replied to me. I do not buy the lotto ticket to win it. I am aware it is unlikely. I buy it to have that illusion for the week. For that he only needs one ticket of course, he does not buy much.

I try to be careful as to not offend those who enjoy spending their money like this. but it was designed to tax people more, nothing more, nothing less.

Its a ruse...

As I say, being aware of the stats, and that it's more likely you spend more than you'll ever win, I have never bought a lotto ticket ever haha, as the last song I shared I don't believe in shortcuts. My brother spends like 1.5 dollars a week.

really enjoyed this...

Ha-hahahahahahahah!!!! That was good, Meno! (picking myself back up onto my chair)... lmfao...

I'm glad you got a kick out of it brother. ;)
