Paradise in Portugal
My #friendsday post for the challenge by @shasta
Tag a friend with what you
know they like!
Any day, everyday.
This post is especially for @pardinus. who lives much closer to the beautiful Alentejo than I do!
The Quinta do Barranco da Estrada is located in the Alentejo province in the tiny town of Santa Clara e Velha. The view of the Santa Clara reservoir is spectacular! And they tell me that on a hot day the swimming is really wonderful. I tried, but it was early in the year and the water was icy!
The Quinta is located far out in the country side and uses solar power to operate off the grid. It is not a luxury resort, but the rooms are great and the food is amazing!
The owner, Frank, is a master birder, and also operates birding tours and many of the other guests were there purely for the birding.
It was while staying here that I saw my first hoopoe, and azure winged magpies. And heard my first Nightingale sing! All treasured memories, and I would highly recommend going on one of his Birding in Portugal tours.

Thank you, luv!
Nice photos! It definitely looks nice there. It's not unlike Andalucía, but then they share a lot in terms of climate and lifestyle.
I bet it is very similar. We tried to go into southern a Spain one day, but there was a strike going on where they did not want people driving. We felt very threatened and got out of Spain as quickly as we could.

That looks awesome with a lot of nature around and looks very peaceful i would love to spend a few nights there :)
If you ever get to Portugal, I would highly recommend it!
It is on my bucket list i love Portugal i did Mexico years ago :)
Portugal has such a wonderful mix of old and new. It is fascinating and so beautiful.
I love that mix of old and new it certainly makes you feel you are on a holiday :)
Looks like a wonderful place, @melinda010100. And I think you just proved that you don't need to have five star accommodations in order to get a slice of paradise. Nice rooms, good food, great views, and birds!
It's hard to tell, but it seems peaceful and out of the way, too. If so, I'm sure that helped the experience.
Portugal is on the list of places to visit one of these days. I like the idea of just spending time on the southern end of Europe, starting with Portugal and heading east. Try to keep it sunny and as warm as possible. Oh. I guess I need to go north if I'm following the land. Dang it! :) I guess I can try and survive that.
This is a very out of the way sort of place, down a long dirt road. They serve dinner there, partly because it is too far to a restaurant to be convenient! The owners are English and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The dinner table conversation is intelligent and thought provoking. You would enjoy it there. I seldom ever stay in 5 star accomadations when I travel, but instead look for places that will be reflective of the area. Not just another hotel chain that looks like the one in every other city. I've stayed in wonderful places all over Portugal. It is a favorite of mine.
I like it. We've done similarly in Mexico for the most part, mainly because we end up staying with one of my wife's relatives. The times we've stayed in a hotel, it was close to the activities we wanted to do, and with only one exception, they were three star or under. The one five star we did stay at was very nice—the best of them all—but it was new, heavily discounted, and we'd be hard pressed to get back there even with their seasonal 40% discounts.
I think it's really best to be where the native folk are. That way you don't just see the glitz, but you also get to see what they're like and how they live. It can be eye-opening, endearing and thought-provoking. :)
That is it, exactly! Most of the ritzy places isolate you from real life. I do hope you get to go to Portugal!
Very nice photos. Friends of mine who had been to Portugal are full of praise of how beautiful Portugal is.
I've been there twice and would go back again anytime. It is definitely a favorite destination for me!
wow.... beautiful photography. thanks present this.
What an invaluable gift from God. People who like to enjoy the beauty of nature will find great strength in themselves. He believed that small people were able to climb peaks. He believes that he is able to achieve dreams. I really dreamed of going there.
Thanks for this My Friend
The beauty of nature is such a gift! I hope all your dreams come true!
Nice place. My country, Portugal, well represented by those pictures.
I'm glad that you like it 🙂

I have lots of good memories of travels around Portugal! It is a very beautiful country.
Woowww you posted them! And they are great! You stayed more near the beach - and Alentejo's coastline is probably my favourite place in Portugal! This past weekend I stayed in the other end, near the border with Spain. Thanks again for sharing those photos! Will have to check that challenge ;)
Ive also stayed over at Monsaraz... I'll post those photos for you one of these days soon.
Will be keeping an eye! ;)
I really like this challenge... It's such a great reason to share with friends!
