More bison
I went searching for animal photos in my photo archives for @juliank 's #animalphotography contest, and wanted to share some of my other American bison photos.
Also commonly called American Buffalo, they can weigh up to 2000 pounds.
There were once 20 to 30 million bison roaming North America. But their numbers were decimated by hunters and bovine diseases introduced by domestic cattle. In 1898 there were approximately 1000 animals left.
Today there are 500,000 bison, most of which have been crossed with cattle, that reside mainly in national parks.

I like the beast
Thank you!
Hes a big guy :)
I don't recall ever seeing one up close. Great shots but I particularly love the very last one.
That is a large herd in South Dakota. The bus had to wait for them to cross the road.
So it wasn’t the chicken crossing the road this time?! 😆
in last photo there is lots of buffaloes...
There are a lot of animals in that herd. It's in the Black Hills in South Dakota.
Wow, they all look wild and tough. I haven't seen one like those my whole life.
They are massive, and can be dangerous if they get angry.
Its soo lovely to share....you do have precious memories
