Feathered Friday-

#featheredfriday by @keithboone is the place to be with your bird photos!

The Brown Pelican, reaches 1.22 meters (4 feet) in length, and has a wingspan of 2.13 meters (7 feet). They are impressive birds to see flying overhead!

It's been a while since I was near the coast and could watch them, so I was happy to see these photos that my kids took of them while they were in Mexico.

Soaring up to 25 meters (80 feet) above the ocean, they dive vertically into the water when they see a fish.
While catching the fish, they scoop up 9.5 liters (2.5 gallons) of seawater into their massive beaks. Then, they tilt their heads forward and drain out the water, before throwing them backwards and swallowing the fish whole.

Great shots. Simply beautiful. Your children are very good photographers. :-)

They both are quite proud of their photos and are pleased that I get some use out of them.

Very good. :-)

beautiful photography...💜

Lovely captures of the pelicans Melinda.

Thanks! They are magnificent, aren't they?

WOW...They look like the US Bombers ready to attack well captured and the idea of scooping up 9.5 liters of salt water they can have that yukkkki...lol :)

They are impressive when they dive into the water, too! Yeah the saltwater would be bad, but swallowing the fish whole would be even worse!

Yuk...isn't nice to be human when you read about things like that :)

Impressive wingspan! It looks as if they fly in lines like geese...

I've not seen those, but their white cousins pass through the lakes of Minnesota and the Dakotas.

The white ones are bigger, and like our freshwater lakes. These guys like saltwater!

@melinda010100 hah cool seeing them fly in formation, we have geese that do the same near by.

They do fly very much like geese do!

What gorgeous silhouettes to gaze upon whilst looking up into the sky... These are beautiful!

Thanks, luv! They are incredible to watch!

oh man, those are too cool Melinda! A wing span of 7 feet! wow. Those guys did pretty well on those pictures!

They both are good photographers! They always make me think of what the pterodactyls must have looked like flying across the sky!

haha! That's an interesting thought! Their profile does kinda look like that doesn't it? I wish I had photographers taking pictures for me so I could do some cool posts! lol.

I would love to see them up close someday. They are really fascinating birds. Stunning photos; I had no idea they can fly that high 🌴😊🌴

The white pelicans are in Ontario during the summer. I have seen large numbers of them over around Kenora on Lake of the Woods.

Really? That's interesting, however, I never heard of Kenora. I just checked on Google map and it's pretty far from Toronto. But it's good to know. Thanks Melinda 😃

It is very far from Toronto, but then everything in Canada is very far from everything else in Canada!😃

You are so right about that 😂😂😂
