RE: "SLC-S22W1/Variables and Expressions"

Task # 4

Scenario 1

Suppose there's a bakery......

Data about the bread obtained from the given statement is given as follows
Total number of bread loaves = 250 ...(i)

The bakery sells two different types of bread loaves so each one is given as follows
white bread loaves = x ...(ii)

Because the number of whole wheat loaves is thirty more than white bread loaves plus the 30 itothe white bread loaves
whole bread loaves = x + 30 ...(iii)

According to the above explanation, we can write
total bread loaves = white bread loaves + whole bread loaves ...(iv)

By putting the values from (i), (ii) and ( iii) into (iv) we get
250 = x + x+30

adding the similar terms
250 = 2x + 30 ....(v)

Rearrange the (v) to gather the similar terms
2x = 250 - 30

on subtraction
2x = 220

Divide both terms by 2
2x/ 2 = 220/2

On simplification, we get the value of x
x = 110 ..(vi)

Now we have to calculate the profit of the bakery. According to statement of scenario 1

profit on each white bread loaf = $0.50
profit on all white bread loaves = x × $0.50 ...(vii)

profit on each whole bread loaf = $0.75
profit on all whole bread loaves =( x + 30) × $0.75 ...(viii)

So the expression for the total profit can be written as follows
total profit = profit on all white bread loaves + profit on all whole bread loaves

By putting values from vii and viii I into the above expression we got
total profit = x × $0.50 + ( x + 30) × $0.75 ...(ix)

put the value of "x" in ...(ix)
total profit = 110 × $0.50 +(110 + 30 )× $0.75

total profit = 110 × $0.50 + 140× $0.75

on multiplication
total profit = $55 + $ 105

After adding both values

total profit of the day = $ 160

Scenario 2

Suppose that the cost of renting .....

Data given in scenario 2

cost of car renting in usual = 2x+ 15
here x = hours
These charges are applied when the time for renting the car is 4 hours or less i.e x≤4

cost of car renting for special offer = 3x- 2
These charges are applied to a specific offer when the time for car renting exceeds 4 hours i.e x>4

Calculations

So total charges can be calculated as the following
rental amount = cost of renting for x≤4 hours + cost of car renting more x>4 hours

total rental amount = (2x + 15 ) + ( 3x -2)

This is an expression for car renting for a day.

Simplification

It can be simplified as follows
total rental amount = 2x + 15 + 3x - 2

Rearrange the expression to gather the like terms
total rental amount = 2x + 3x + 15 -2

total rental amount = 5x + 13

So 5x + 13 is a simplified expression to calculate the total rental amount per day.
