Policy or Philosophy? Questioning The Nature of The Beast

in #philosophy5 years ago

"The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern: EVERY class is unfit to govern." - Lord Acton

I see a lot of people today, now moreso than ever, talking 'politics'; arguing for this policy or that policy, campaigning for this president or that president. "I'm with her," the democrats chant. "Make America great again!" the republicans retort. "Bernie 2020!" the socialists roar.

What these people never question, however, is the fundamental nature of political authority and whether or not government even has a right to exist. I sometimes wonder if such a thought has ever even entered their minds.

I see a lot of politicising but very little philosophising, which is a good indication of where we're at as a society. The Age of Reason is truly dead. Today we live in the Age of Outrage.

A philosopher, a true lover of wisdom, doesn't bicker over this policy or that policy, or squabble over which king ought to rule the throne. The philosopher questions the very nature of such things; who possesses the right to enforce policy? What is the law, and who gets to enforce it? Do politicians have more rights than the citizens? Does anyone possess the right to govern others? Is government a legitimate, moral institution?

If you philosophise instead of politicise, you will come to understand the true nature of government: slavery. Once you stop arguing policy and start investigating philosophy, the world in which you live becomes much easier to comprehend, albeit much harder to tolerate.

What is referred to as 'conventional wisdom' is more often than not, horse shit. Always question the underlying assumptions and norms of the society in which you live.

Philosophise before you politicise. In fact, don't even bother with the latter. It's a waste of time.
