It's about time. Long enough the rice was allowed to hold out on the fields but now in mid-September it is going to be harvest time. But before that, I enjoy watching the green-yellow fields swaying in the wind. And even up close, the ears of rice make us anticipate what will soon be on our tables. Fresh steaming 新米 Shinmai (New Rice), which will be served as a reward at the end of the harvest season.

For the moment, however, I am still taking pleasure in the rice fields and looking at them very closely. After everything is cut down soon, this sight will change a lot and short, stubbly fields will dominate the landscape for a few months. But I'm not in a hurry to get there, and I hope that I'll be able to see the late summer beauty of our region again this afternoon when I drive across the country.

Es wird Zeit. Lange genug durfte der Reis auf der Feldern ausharren aber nun Mitte September geht es ihm an den Kragen. Zuvor genieße ich es aber noch ein wenig, den grün-gelben Feldern zuzusehen, wie sie sich im Wind wiegen. Und auch aus der Nähe betrachtet, machen die Reisähren Vorfreuede auf das, was demnächst auf unseren Tischen stehen wird. Frischer dampfender 新米 Shinmai (Neuer Reis), welcher zum Abschluss der Erntesaison als Belohnung serviert wird.

Im Augenblick erfreue ich mich aber noch an den Reisfeldern und sehe mir diese ganz genau an. Nachdem demnächst alles abgeernet wurde, wird sich dieser Anblick stark ändern und kurze, stoppelige Felder werden für einige Monate die Landschaft prägen. Dahin habe ich es aber nicht eilig und hoffe, dass ich auch heute Nachmittag bei einer Fahrt übers Land noch einmal die spätsommerliche Schönheit unseres Landstriches geboten bekomme.
