A thundering Sunday night 👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan

Last Sunday night was crazy. The whole night we witnessed endless downpours and thunderstorms and I was hardly able to sleep. It took until Monday evening until the spectacle was finally over and the sky started to become a little brighter. Just before it became dark again. What a night it was. The thick dark clouds which showed up during Sunday were unloading tons of rains and in addition, the sky was full of thunders and flashes, which is not so special in itself, but the many thunderstorms that move over us, kept us under their reign for almost 20 hours. Most of the time the thunder was so close, that I was standing bolt upright in bed. And after seeing all the rain I was thinking whether someone in Japan wants to make up for all the rain that has failed to fall in many parts of Europe his year.

Actually I had hoped, the rain brings a little cooling. It may be a few degrees less warm now, but it has become much more humid. The wet air has already lasted for a week since, when the region over here at the Japanese sea dived into the rainy season. In eastern Japan, the rainy season is already coming to an end, and Tokyo is experiencing a record June with temperatures well above 30 degrees. Apparently the temperature here have never been this high since records began. And with the end of the rainy season, it should get even warmer as midsummer sets in right after. A few weeks early but just as hot and still oppressively humid. The hot time should probably last until September, the forecasts are not that pleasant and promising right now.

But I am just waiting for the experts to come in and say that summers just have to be warm. Of course they are supposed to, but unfortunately there seems to be no open end to warm and hot weather. And since in the last few years all over the world climate records have been regularly broken, I don't need anyone to tell me that it's "normal" and "quite natural". Even if many of us do not want to admit it, there are more and more extreme weather situations everywhere on our planet, which should bring even the biggest summer fetishist to rethink. If he is willing and able to think!

What the solution for our climate problems is, unfortunately, I can't tell you either. Of course, it would be difficult for me too, to have to save electricity and energy everywhere and every day. Especially in the Japanese summer the air conditioners run at full speed. I don't think you can convince the people here to sweat a little bit more.

Unfortunately in my case, sweating can hardly be avoided. The air conditioning in my car has been broken for years and the one in my workroom has unfortunately never been there. And since I am still allowed to work from home, I am now sitting here sweating all by myself. The fans I have can't keep up and the open window won't let much fresh air in anymore.

At the moment I would be satisfied if the constant thunderstorms and downpours won't come back, and it wasn't quite so humid and stuffy. At least in the evening I want to go outside the house to escape the confinement of my own four walls for a short while.

But yes, it is summer. Even if it often seems like a challenge, I don't want to miss this season either and therefor I will try to enjoy it as much as possible. What else can we do?
