EOS Philippines Meet Up

in #eos6 years ago

Last Friday I was in a blockchain meeting for EOS and listened to several projects that are being developed in the platform.

This was being hosted by EOS Philippines who is headed by Javi Benitez who is an aspiring block producer for the EOS blockchain.

Relief Chain

First who presented their project was Gaulam Anand who talked about his Relief Chain application. The aim of Relief Chain is to be able to help government and private entities who are involved in disaster relief operations.

The problems when disaster strikes are mobilizing the volunteers, knowing when supplies runs out and keeping track of everything. This is where the application comes in by being able to provide an end to end system that will alert volunteers, help in tracking the progress and providing analytics after the disaster thus providing transparency and accountability on what happened with the funds that was used.

I am reminded of what happened at the Yolanda Super Typhoon a couple of years back where when the typhoon hit and a call for help were sent to the international community donations and supplies poured in but were mismanaged in its deployment and a lot of the foodstuff were left rotting while people starved.

Funds that were supposedly going to be for housing and shelters went to the pockets of corrupt politicians and was even used in the last presidential elections.

By using an immutable and cannot be changed system like a decentralized blockchain then transparency and accountability increases and corruption can be minimized because of a digital trail that is open to all.

This was a project that I really liked and could see this being used by local government to large institution like the UN. All in the part of my belief in humanizing the blockchain.

Ono, Decentralized Social Media

Ono was one of the reasons why I really went to the event. It was to be able to meet personally several key members of the platform who flew in from Beijing to talk more about what the platform intends to do.

I have uploaded a short video of their presentation Ono Presentation in the EOS Philippines Meet up

Alto.IO

This was an interesting project for a gamer like me because Paul Gadi, CTO of Alto, talked about the economy of Item Building.

One of problems games today is their cash shop items is only usable in their platform. So an item set in DOTA 2 cannot be transferred to another game and thus lacks value outside of the game. By having a platform that will connect different games when a player buys an item it can be used in other games thus increasing its value.

This also gives gaming companies possible more funds because a player can invest in items and know it has more value.

This is aimed to smaller gaming companies in order to even the playing field with larger companies.

John Milburn

Described as an EOS enthusiast he is an adviser to several companies that are building platforms in either the EOS mainnet or running the EOS IO technology.

He had a more conversational, sort of an Ask Me Anything session where he answered questions that happened to EOS, Block One and other concerns people had with the technology.

Brock Pierce

The self-styled hippie of the cryptocurrency world, Brock was something else when he started to talk about EOS.

Having been an early adopter of Bitcoin and creating several venture capital firms that are involved in cryptocurrency and gaming economies.

His discussion on Sacred Geometry and the EOS logo was something insightful and very interesting.

One thing that really struck me in his talk was not being chained to one specific blockchain technology as he believes that each tech has its merits and that we should aim to create a better world with this technology rather than fighting and trying to undermine each other and wish other blockchain technologies to fail.

I think that was the biggest takeaway that I got in that meeting to be more open to other blockchains. The way that I see some of the supporters of a given blockchain or Dapp is they need to put down others so that they can highlight their own project.

This fighting that we see is not beneficial for the technology and is often a source of issues that Fudsters use to show how bad cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is.

It is very interesting to see all of these ideas come forth and whatever platform they develop its aim is to make the world better.

Is Javi Benitez here in Steemit as well? Where was the event announced?
