Tequeños are so popular in our Venezuela that they are not only limited to parties; they are also found in every Venezuelan corner. They are so requested that Truchi Café did not want to be left behind with the preparation of this delicious appetizer and we started to promote them during this Christmas season.
Why offer tequeños?
Types of tequeños
✔ Traditional tequeño: as you can imagine, the traditional tequeño is based on a cheese stick of the size of your preference (small, medium, large) wrapped in a special dough (similar to bread dough, but with more fat) and fried in abundant oil or simply baked.
✔ Chocolate tequeño: this type of tequeño has gradually become one of the favorites. In this case, the cheese is replaced by a chocolate bar, which must be very cold in order to be able to roll it in the dough without any inconvenience.
✔ Mermelada tequeño de: this type of tequeño is one of the least popular; however, it exists, it is a matter of substituting the traditional filling for the jam of choice. To do this, make jam bars and put them in the freezer so that they take consistency.
Different sizes
✔ Small: this is the traditional version, they are about the size of a finger and are made mainly for parties and gatherings.
✔ Medium: they are twice the size of the small ones and are made mainly for long meetings where hunger must be resisted for a longer time.
✔ Large: they measure approximately 20 or 30 centimeters and are made for breakfast or dinner.
How to prepare them?
Ingredients:
✔ 500 grams of flour.
✔ 150 grams of butter.
✔ 1 egg.
✔ 75 grams of sugar.
✔ 4 grams of salt.
✔ 4 grams of yeast.
✔ 240 milliliters of water.
✔ 250 grams of hard cheese.
Preparation:
To make it, heat the water a little, add a spoonful of sugar and the yeast, beat it and let it stand for 5 minutes.
Add in a bowl the flour, sugar, salt, butter and egg.
Once the yeast is activated (when it has a lot of foam), add it little by little to the rest of the ingredients and knead until you get a smooth dough without lumps. See my post on how to prepare bread dough if you want excellent results.
Let the dough rest for 20 minutes and start assembling, for this chop the cheese into strips, stretch the dough very well with a rolling pin and then start cutting strips of dough to roll the cheese.
Once all the steps have been completed, fry them or take them to the oven and you will have the perfect appetizer for any occasion.
