Hard Work Can Only Do So Much
The New Year is here and with it, many New Year Resolutions have been created. So what is the best way to accomplish these goals? It's not only by working hard.
When you really think about it, many people in the world work extremely hard. So why isn't everyone that works extremely hard successful? The reason is that hard work is not a determining factor of success. In the book, High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard, Brendon states that hard work is really only needed in the initial stages of starting something new and I firmly believe this.
When we really take the time to analyze any new journey, I'm sure we can all agree that the journey is extremely difficult with many highs and many more lows. So if we take this into consideration and we work hard throughout the whole process, it's highly likely that we will become exhausted, frustrated, and eventually give up. This is why the only way to truly accomplish any goal we set is not by only working hard, but mainly by working smarter.
Hard work is important but only in the beginning when we start something new. Hard work is what is needed in order to create the initial jump-start momentum and to give us the sense of progress. But only hard work will cause burn out. Instead of relying on only hard work, we must create strategies, systems, and habits that will continuously build momentum until we reach the goals we set for ourselves. These strategies, systems, and habits are important because by working smarter instead of harder, we create leverage over everything that we do and it allows us to continue creating progress without the same level of frustration and exhaustion that is created by hard work.
So yes, hard work is important. But do not rely on it to carry you to success. Instead, rely on working smarter. Create habits, strategies, and systems that provide you with leverage to dominate the New Year and accomplish every goal you create.
Best wishes!
