Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas or expression as one's own orginal work.

In educational context there are different defination of plagiarism depending on the institution . Plagarism is also considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethic

There are four types of plagiarism
There are;

  1. Direct plagiarism

  2. Mosaic plagiarism

  3. Self plagiarism

  4. Accidental plagiarism

  5. Direct plagiarism: It shows how people copy other person's written work without trying to recognise the orginal owner of the work.

  6. Mosaic plagiarism: This is when a student borrow phrases from the orginal source with no quotation mark or giving the same meaning to go in line with the real message of the author. Example of mosaic plagiarism include changing the grammar and the word choice without recognising the orginal writer.
    One must avoid mosaic plagiarism by using appropriate citation of the source. This include giving credit to the real owner of the work.

  7. Self plagiarism: This is when a writer or an author recopy his work again and use as a new book entirely.
    Self plagiarism bring about a blockage of the author's work by other publishers thereby killing the interest of his or her readers

  8. Accidental plagiarism: This is when a person refuse ot neglate to mention the source or misquote or purposeful paraphrase a source by usingbthe same word, group of words or sentences. This kind of writing has bad effect on the worknof such a work by receiving lower grade of total failure from the author or writer of the book. It may also lead to suspension or expulsion in the case of academic institution.

So to avoid all this negative effects of plagiarism to befall us

  1. Best practices is what is needed.

  2. Keep track of the source of your work

  3. We need to combine our ideas with the one we paraphrase. Also recognise the owner of the work.
