Tenerife volcano
Today is the day of the landscape and I looked in my photo archives for an interesting landscape. This is the panorama that I made on the mountain. The sky, the pines, as if plowed land.
This landscape made a strong impression on me.
The Teide volcano is the highest point in Tenerife and the whole of Spain. On the territory around Teide is the Spanish national park - a nature reserve, introduced in 2007 in the UNESCO list.
The Teide National Park (Parque Nacional del Teide) received its protected status in 1954. It is the largest, the most visited natural object of Spain, of world significance. Its area is 14 thousand hectares. The historical and natural scientific value of the reserve is extremely high. Teide Park is the most popular tourist area. Travelers, climbers, adventurers come here from all over the world.
Teide Park is located in the caldera of Las Canadiados, formed 150 thousand years ago. Researchers claim that the level of the upper point of El Teide once reached 5000 meters, but a part of the summit collapsed after a violent eruption. Now the height of Teide is 3718 m.
The grandiose cone of the volcano rises in the center of the park. The surrounding area with bizarre peaks and frozen lava flows looks so unusual and picturesque that it is often called the "lunar landscape". In the local landscape you can see amazing in form rock formations: The finger of God, Bear-mountain, Queen's queen. In winter, the peak of Teide is covered by snow.
Teide is considered to be a dormant but active volcano - it exudes a tangible smell of sulfur. Guanchi believed that inside the Teide lives Guyota - the evil demon of the island.
In the territory of Teide Park, geological features of landscape changes have been preserved in different periods. They can be used to study the history of the formation and development of volcanic islands. The European Scientific Observatory operates in the park.
In the caldera, a peculiar, contrasting climate. The bright sun is combined with a sharp wind and low temperatures. For tourists who go to Teide Park, experts advise you to grab windbreakers, shoes with grooved soles for walking on slippery volcanic ground, sunglasses and an effective protective cream.
