The Desna River
Desna is the largest tributary of the Dnieper. It is a typical lowland river with a leisurely current, a wide floodplain, sometimes marshy.
The main tributaries of the Desna are the Sejm, Snov, Bolva, Oster. And after the Diet the canal of the Desna has been expanded and often broken into sleeves and ducts. The expansion of the river is connected with the spring flood, which is especially active in late March - early April. Then the ice cover, created in December, disappears.
Desna, from the earliest time, plays a role. Thus, the archaeological descent culture of the Paleolithic is known, most of which is in the Desna Valley. Parking is open early Bronze Age. Slavs used the river as a transport route. Rising to the Sejm and Bolva, they communicated with the Don and Oka basins.
The largest cities on the Desna are Bryansk and Chernigov. They are also the main tourist centers of the Desna. Bryansk is a city of military glory, attracted by numerous monuments of the Great Patriotic War, and Chernigov fascinates with ancient churches and monasteries of the Kievan Rus period. Floodplain forests of the Desna are hunters and gatherers of mushrooms, and kayaks merge along tributaries.
