Autism and coronavirus

Since all this madness called coronavirus and covid-19 arrived at each of our homes, it has caused a change of routines, which were already established, in some cases, for years, causing drastic modifications of these.

In every home in the world this terrible virus has touched in some way, either by making them sick, by killing them, by learning, by modifying and bringing new customs, to them.

In many countries and cities they have spent more than 2 months of confinement, 2 months of being locked up in 4 walls, but we have asked ourselves, what about those families who have children with autism?

I was talking to a mom and she told me that it was one of the most terrible moments they have ever had, because her 8-year-old boy with type 2 autism was used to going out every day. After two weeks of tantrums, she decided to go for a walk around the block. What is her surprise that she could not get out of that confinement, because the child for his sensory sensitivity can not stand the clothes, much less supported that mask that had to wear on his face and the mother had to return to lock up another week, applied the ingenuity of mother and chose to put a helmet and recreate a game and thus could go out with the child, In this way the little one accepted to be protected by his superhero helmet on his head.

Another mother told us that her son had to eat banana or cambur at exactly 4 o'clock in the afternoon accompanied by another fruit, in the town where she lives the fruits were scarce and the tantrums that her son has had have been enormous, but nevertheless she managed to modify the food and now today her son has a snack at 4 o'clock in the afternoon as he was used to but with what the mother has at hand.

In the particular case of my 13 year old son, high functioning, at the beginning of the confinement he exactly said ... I don't understand, so much so that I have been criticized because I don't like anyone touching me, kissing me, or greeting me and now it turns out what they say is the best lifestyle ... they finally understand what it is to be autistic. Recently, watching a commercial about the family's call to stay at home, I was wondering how they make a commercial calling to be at home and record it outdoors?

Really in one way or another every mom and dad tries to jump over the problems that we have today, I worried in a high way thinking about the kids that remained in routine but each one of us has known how to handle it, this learning with the covid-19 has made us better parents, we have had to be part of the learning process much stronger, much more face to face, become even more of a therapist, teacher, playmate, even in difficult times we blue parents are still the best.

Lea study prepare, ask autism is part of your life learn to live with it.
