In the second ODI of a three-match series, Bangladesh set Afghanistan a target of 253 runs. Winning the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led his team with an impressive 76 runs.
The opening pair, Tanzid Tamim and Soumya Sarkar played cautiously at the start, with Tamim scoring 22 before being caught off the bowling of Afghan spinner Qais Ahmad. Soumya Sarkar contributed 35 runs, building a 71-run partnership with Shanto. Rashid Khan dismissed Soumya LBW in the 19th over, marking a turning point for Afghanistan’s bowling lineup.
Shanto, demonstrating excellent focus, formed a crucial 53-run partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. However, Miraz was sent back after scoring 22. Tawhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah had a rough day with the bat, scoring 11 and 3 runs, respectively, before they were dismissed by Nijat Masood.
Shanto's solid 76 anchored the innings, though he fell short of a century, eventually departing with a catch at 76. Bangladesh’s innings wrapped up at 252 runs, thanks in part to Nasum Ahmed's quick 24-ball 25 and debutant Zakir Hasan's 37.
Afghanistan’s bowlers were commendable, with Nijat Masood taking 3 wickets for 28 runs, while Rashid Khan and Qais Ahmad each secured two wickets. This set up a competitive match as Afghanistan looked to chase down the target set by Bangladesh.
