Historical trip in search of Isurumuni couple...

in #travel5 years ago

Hello Wonderful Steem Community,

How are you guys? I hope you're doing well. Today decided to share my past travel experience where I traveled North central province in Sri Lanka. I have more photo collection in my each laptop folder. With #newsteem time to posting them. Did you heard about Isurumuni lovers? If you don't know you can find it through some articles. I have best six friends. We find some best location and arranged same vehicle for each tours.

We came to temple's land through entrance gate. It was my first visit to Isurumuni Temple. I learned more about history of this temple when I was a student at grade 10. So I knew this is a more historical location. When we came to temple had to see over 15 matured and little monks. They wear orange and yellow color robes. You can see behind the monks some of local Buddhist came for watch relics and worship for Lord Buddha.

Behind the wall was a glass veil covering the Buddha. I couldn't captured Buddha's statue because inside hall, top of the Buddha had bulb's light. So outside visual automatically reflected to my camera view. On either side of the wall were carvings of pots and dragons. There was no need for new coatings on them because they wanted to keep the cultural value. That's marks of Sri Lankan Buddhism.

In my view, it is the last resting place of the Buddha. Above the wall were painted auspicious Arhats and monks. However artist very nicely built statue and draw wall paintings.

These statues are an occasion for the Mihindu Arhant to preach to other monks when Buddhism introduced to Sri Lanka. See, how the Arhant's burial style has been raised by the artist. Absolutely stunning. The artist must need to be patience still work on the statue. Because they want to the characters and characteristics of the monks should be highlighted. Arahant Mahinda Thero was instrumental in introducing Buddhism to Sri Lanka.

That's a Isurumuni lover's statue. Isurumuniya is most popular for the stone carving of a couple located there. More visitors came there for watch lover's statue. This was found from garden of the temple. There are many interpretations for this statue.

The most popular is that this carving shows the prince Saliyaand his mistress Asokamala. Asokamala was of a lover cast called “Chandala” and the prince Saliya gave up the right to be the king by marrying this girl of a lower cast.
Another belief is that this couple represent the god Siva and goddess Parvathi of Hindu belief.

Then I found another sleepy action's Buddha statue. This was oldest creativity because anyone can say it through that's looks. The wrinkles on the robe are nicely carved.

image.png

At the entrance to the rock temple had a large pond. The pond was full of water. Above the pond there is a carving of a man seated in a royal pose and a horse head. The top carving is thought to be carving of Fire and Parjanya. Oldest people believe Parjanya was the god for rain.

image.png

That's a carving of bathing elephants. The elephants below shown the clouds.

image.png

That's a biggest stone cave. We came out from cave. Surrounding area awesome with green nature. I believe those days when was built this temple, around area could be forest area. Around environment highlighted it. Later, it was used by the Arahants and the Rishis for meditation.

image.png

Exactly this was a brilliant place for do deep meditation because only hear naturalize voices. Never heard loud noises. Tree shades reduce everything.

image.png

I saw an alphabet engraved on a stone. They are cell letters(සෙල් ලිපි). We are not experts for read old letters. But there engraved important letter those kingdom's period.

image.png

While walking around, I saw ruins like an ancient temple. There is a stone-based foundation all around. Look at closer.

image.png

Omg .... its staircase was still strong and had the same structure as it was then. The nearby ruins could not be photographed because they were not allowed to enter. Because a single step can ruin antiquities. I think you'll enjoy and take some knowledge about our historical location.

Thank you for watching & Reading. Have a Nice day.
