in Steem Kids & Parents2 years ago

Hello friends, it's nice to be with you once again and I'm participating in the food challenge for this week.

It's another great day and opportunity for me now to be sharing this post with you all. Today I made a special recipe from the casava plant that we harvested today.
Today we harvested the remaining parts of the casava that we didn't finish the last te.we went there. This time we decided to make something a little different from the Garri we have been making with the casava. See what we made in the picture below:

The image below will show you the transformation.

It is called Akara ewa or you can call it Casava Akara. It is very delicious and I will share the whole recipe with you hoping you will try it out.

IngredientsQuantity
Grated Casava3 handfuls
Dry Pepper1 tablespoon
Salt1.5 Teaspoon
Seasoning cube1 cube
OnionsMedium sized
IMG-20220419-WA0018.jpgIMG-20220419-WA0011.jpg
Pepper, salt, onions, seasoning cubeGrated casava

Procedure

  • In a clean bag, extract the starch from the grated Casava and put it in a clean bowl
IMG-20220419-WA0003.jpgIMG-20220419-WA0010.jpg
  • Pound or grate the onions and keep it ready in another plate.
IMG-20220419-WA0008.jpg Pounded onions
  • In a tray, put the casava and gradually mix all the ingredients to it. I chose to divide it in half to be easier for me.

IMG_20220419_201730_031.jpgIMG_20220419_201710_470.jpg
  • Mix them very well and keep them ready for molding. After that it will be time to mold it to a desired shape. But make sure it's not too big so tht it can still be crunchy as it is supposed to be. And it is better enjoyed when it's crunchy.
IMG_20220419_202121_078.jpgIMG_20220419_202559_972.jpg
  • Next put the palm oil to a heated pan since it is what we will be using to fry it. Put the one that will be enough to cover what you want to fry.

IMG_20220419_202647_544.jpg

  • Allow the oil to heat up and then start to put in the moulded mixture for frying. Put them carefully into the oil.
IMG_20220419_203006_140.jpgIMG_20220419_203233_597.jpg
  • It must be allowed to turn brown and crunchy, it is usually very crunchy when it is done so that is what you will be checking for. Try to stir and turn them over for easier process of frying and so that the both sides can also do well.

IMG_20220419_204356_430.jpg

Get it out and put in a fridge since it's already done. At this point it is very brown and crunchy. Put it in a sieve to drain the oil.

It is better served hot or warm and that is when it is best enjoyed. You can eat it with tea or soft drinks.

Hola amiga, no me gusta la cebolla pero en tu receta se ve muy rica creo que me las comería todas, gracias por compartirla con todos nosotros es muy fácil de hacer mucho mas que el garri jajajaj.

Hahahaha, making garri is a whole process, unlike it this one is very easy to make. Thank you for coming to see my post, i'm happy that you likes it even though you do not like onions. Maybe one day we will see each other and I will make all the Nigerian meals for you to enjoy. Have a great day ahead my beautiful friend

Interesting, i think i've tasted this Akara last week, unfortunately were ate the Akara, the person who gave me didnt want to tell me what it is made of.., but i think i've got it now. Thank yoy for sharing the how it is made.

The ewa you mentioned here is it Cassava in Ibibio language? If it is...then it is spelt Iwa..., when you say ewa, that means you are talking about dog 🐕 😃.

So here is the summary of what i mean...

Ewa means dog in English
Iwa means Cassava in English.

Perhaps that was a mistake 😊. Thank you for sharing.., you should keep some for me.😃.

Hahaha, ok. I mean casava not dog, so it should be Iwa and not ewa, lesson learnt. Thank you so much for the correction, I will keep learning the Ibibio language, little by little I get there
