In my family we call these "bulletproof birds". We gave them that name because our father would shoot them with his hand gun, but he would be lucky to find one dead. Most of the time the bullets didn't penetrate through to the body and the guineafowl would just fly away. My father shot them because they would dig up the crops and seeds that we planted on our farm. There were many that came in large groups and if my father did manage to shoot one my grandmother would pluck them and put them in pie. They tasted really good when cooked right and we would hope that my father killed some when he went down into the lands with his gun. We also only ate them in the months without any "r's" in them, if I remember correctly it was either because of worms or their breeding cycle. The weirdest place that I saw one of them was in New Zealand in the Whangarei area, it was someones pet.
