RE: A Question Of Growth

in #steemit6 years ago

Such a well done post @headchange! I'm honored that you included me here as well.

So I offer heartfelt thanks to all of those who shine a bit of light on the road ahead.

What an awesome thing to say!!

You're smart to have figured out to "follow those who are a step ahead", and I share your optimism in thinking that things will be sorted out too!

I remember this feeling, like @tryskele describes in her comment:

Just like now we're in an oddball gap. We're not newbies, we're not even officially minnows yet.

It's a bit of a no-man's land. You're not brand new and receiving "newbie" support, but you're not "old" enough to be earning yourself. It's a strange time for sure.

I read once that each 10 point increment in your reputation gets exponentially more difficult. So, we start at 25 and move to 35 quickly, and think, "well, this is fun, and not too difficult"; then 35 to 45 takes that much longer, and we think it's all still manageable, then 45 to 55 takes even longer and all of these questions start to arise. I often wonder if the questions comes because of the time and work it keeps taking to grow. Someone told me, "just wait until you try to get from 60 to 70". Very encouraging haha

I know that when I started, I decided to comment a lot. But I also made a choice to not only comment on those of my own rep, because you do benefit from a community where you all grow and support each other, but also on those much higher than me. It wasn't anything false or disingenuous, because I only commented on things I was interested in. And I continued to comment on those until I was noticed...by some. And there's nothing "icky" about working yourself a bit to get noticed if in fact it is all real and genuine commenting. And let's face it, if we are looking for someone "bigger" to support us, there's not reason why we shouldn't support them as well.

I also haven't invested any of my own funds in steemit. I have been fortunate to have been assisted by some awesome support, but my growth has been organic nonetheless. And that kind of growth takes time. What I realized after reading all of the comments on my post, is that it's a bad idea to compare ourselves to others here when it comes to growth. Every situation is so different; time, money etc invested. We each do what is right for us, others do what is right for them.

I don't know what the real answer is here, but like you, I'm following what's happening in the payitforward discord too. With so many in the same boat, I'd like to think, like I said in the beginning of this long-winded comment :), that it can somehow get sorted out :)

Thank you so much! I am a bit behind on comments today.

I read once that each 10 point increment in your reputation gets exponentially more difficult.

I hear the same thing. I am already wondering how I will ever manage to make the climb from 45 to 55
Honestly 60 to 70 is beyond anything I can comprehend at the moment.
I really should follow your lead on the commenting part. Lots of times I don't even remember to pay attention to the rep score. I am sure my own could have benefited from some of that"working" you speak of. I may have to pay a bit closer attention to this going forward.
Organic growth really does take time lots of it.

I'd like to think, like I said in the beginning of this long-winded comment :), that it can somehow get sorted out :)

At any rate it is one more road on our Steemit journey. I have faith that at the very least great ideas will grow from all of the discussion.

No worries about "being behind"; we all do have a real life too, separate from our steemit one haha

Truthfully, I totally stopped paying attention to my rep score, and honestly there were times when I'd say to my husband, "oh look, I'm at 50.blah blah :) It can be like watching paint dry if you focus too much on it!

Watching paint dry ... so funny and so true. I am the type person who would be reminding myself to engage with the 60+ crowd more but totally forget why I was meaning to do it lol

I had to scroll forever to find this comment @headchange! You sure hit on a nerve here I'd say!! Nice job :) This is the kind of "working" that sometimes happens accidentally :) You've got some biggies here chatting away without even trying haha Seriously though, there's some really good advice here I think!

Sorry for the long scroll journey lol no I'm not. Actually I am a bit awestruck. Wondering how the heck this happened. You made a comment that I meant to address about typing into thin air. That can be such a carefree way to type. Also what I thought I was doing (note the lack of tags)
I agree and am appreciative beyond words for so much input and from many I look up to no less.

haha @headchange, I'm going to start looking for posts with crazy long comments and tag you randomly in the depths of them somewhere!

I'm happy for you that this post and the response turned out so well :)

thank you.
I try.
