A few thoughts about the last 2 forums on PAL ///

in #mspwaves5 years ago

Last couple days i have been listening in to a few radio shows like the one @llfarms organized yesterday LINK and "@aggroed witness forum" today LINK.

To get right into it.... Yesterdays show, as fun as it might have been, imo, turned into basically a "fun night out at the pub".
There were some decent speakers there whose content i follow and some people i respect greatly, but after a while (was there for all 4 hours) i completely tuned out and tried to have some convos in the chat..

The moderator of the show seemed to have the "radio voice" part covered and was easy to listen to. But there was something i wasnt a fan of. With so many people coming in to speak he was continuously asking the same question over and over again while not being happy about any deviations from said question.

Whats the state of steem and how urgent is the situation?

Now, thats an ok question if it was asked of one speaker, but if there is already an across the board agreement and understanding of whats going on, what value does asking the same question of every speaker get you? Not much, i think.

Unfortunately, it still seems to me that there is this tendency when theres a lot of steemians in one place to "hang out" without ever being concrete.
Now this bugs me... Not because its a bad thing to "hang out" but rather because that seems to be the only thing these get-togethers ever turn into (hang outs). Now that we dropped to 51 in market cap it bugs me even more.

"Yeah things arent great, layoffs, stuff, money, investment...etc. but hey, community is strong and Steem is great".

Sure, we know that. How about we start doing something now as a community?

There is this established mantra that is being repeated over and over again, ad nauseam.
The steem community needs to come together!

And so we did, there were at least a 100 people listening in to the radio show and all i was thinking was:
Great, finally we got together, finally ideas will be dropped, concrete actions will be talked about. The community came together, now it will act together.

But no. Out of all the speakers i can only point out a few that really left a positive impression on me. @oracle-d founder (i assume) being one. Talking about the projects oracle-d is working on and sharing how they contribute to external promotion and brand recognition.
Along with @llfarms yesterday and @yabapmatt speaking today on Aggroeds show, that was about it in regards to listening to someone that appeared driven to do what needs to be done.

We had a 100 people there and in the end, from the 4 hour radio show, the only thing i think was achieved is that those 100 people will go to bed that night feeling like everything will be ok.
They get a nice pat on the head and a smile with a "everything will be a-ok, bud."

We talk about using the power of the community, about unified action, but once everything is said, "once the points have been scored" everybody returns to their own small parts of the Steem blockchain to pick away at their own little things they do.

We can talk all we want about the power of the community but if we dont use that which we have, we might as well not have it at all.

There is a reason why during war the "peacetime" leaders are replaced by those more fit for the job. Those that act, those that get stuff done in situations that require strong will and determination.
Those that do well during peacetime arent necessarily the best choice for leadership during wartime.
And it seems to me that the peacetime has passed for STEEM in the cryptomarket while we still have peacetime leaders in charge....

So, next time, id like to see more "calls to action" and less:

Anyways... Kumbaya... :D

Well its good to hear that i didnt make a lasting impression 😂😂😂

That forum was the first in a series and designed to set the scene

So tell me, what actions are you taking to make things better?

"What actions are you taking to make things better?" that's a very hostile, passive-aggressive, non-constructive question which is not helpful at all.

What I had expected from you was more like "What actions would you suggest we take together to make things better?"

Exactly. I know you stumbled upon what i write about probably due to bots and whenever that is the case its easy to miss what the person wrote before...
But i do actually have a few posts where i talk about steem potential, use cases, ideas as to what to do.

My posts arent passive-aggresive. Theyre simply aggresive. And i get what that means. I completely understand in which group that places me.
Again.. I wrote quite a bit about social dynamics here and value placed on those that act according to those social dynamics...
But...
While that works internally, and can push you up the ladder on steem, acting in accordance to those proven methods of success on steem, you arent creating any kind of external effect. (Rather, have no reason to).

So i do this.
I dont have a position to make any change due to those same social dynamics, but as someone told me: "do you feel comfortable making people uncomfortable"?

Someone has to. Because those that usually do it are mostly seen as crazies. Being comfortable in the position we are in is detrimental to the health and future of the platform.
We shouldnt be comfortable. We should be shaking in our boots.
And thats when things get done.

I think the comment was aimed at me.

yeah figured it out when i switched to my PC.

damn. My bad. was on my phone using partiko so i thought it was a comment on what i wrote. sry. :)

No, it was a reaction to @paulag 's reply. But your answer was very good all the same. I usually have the same style as you have, with about as much success till now ... which is "not much". But I'm working on it.

Sometimes its just as easy to talk in the same tone as the person you are replying too 😁. Its damn hard being nice all the time, and hay it got a responce too. Many of my nice replies dont 😅

Go take a look at @lordbutterfly post today, he rocks and my tone didn't put him off....phew

Haha. I tuned out after a while, started discussing stuff with the chat so i wasnt paying attention after a while, as i said in the post..Might be the reason i missed you..
Well i told the people i trust would listen about my ideas. Being in a position as someone that criticizes, it wouldnt be sound sharing anything publicly.

Ideas are always welcome, just because u critize does not mean you can not add value. Hiding behind the mask of of critical words dont wash with me
