Impressions of my home town

I came to my home town to visit parents for a few days, and today I decided to take a stroll around the center. It was the first sunny day in a while so roaming through a small beautiful town with mostly baroque architecture in the old core was quite soothing. I ran into this fella looking at me from the window and used the opportunity to seize the moment.

On the edge of the old core there is a medieval castle that is called 'The Old Town' of Varaždin. There's a moat all around it, and a circular hill above the moat where you can take a walk and see the castle from all sides. There are three 'corners' with meadows and small benches where young couples usually come and kiss for the first time, so you can say it's a pretty romantic space. I took a panoramic photo in the golden hour time, but the sun hid behind the cloud, which doesn't diminish the scenery.

The square tower in the middle of the castle is the oldest known written mention of the city of Varaždin (year 1181). The circular bastions were added in renaissance period, the 16th century.

Varaždin is a small town, and with its architecture surrounding you, you always have this feeling like being in some kind of a fairytale historical period. Oh, and also, it hosts one of the biggest street art festivals in Croatia, Špancirfest, but I'll talk about that some other time.
