Figure Drawing Practice
Today I spent some time working with vine charcoal and newsprint in order to study some anatomy. I haven't done this in a long while and I really should do it more. Probably multiple times a week.
I generally start with terrible gesture drawings like this to warm up:
I only spent about 1 minute on each gesture. These are generally pretty bad so I don't worry about them as much. Next I spend a bit more time but keep the details simple with a few more poses:
After that, I then spend as much time as I want on a single pose and try to capture more fine detail than the previous sketches.
"Pretty bad" bwahahaha! Even the quick sketches are good. I get too bogged down in details unfortunately, so the quick sketches are agonizing for me. I much prefer longer poses or photographs. Great work!
I gave you a little shoutout since you’re the reason why I’ve started doing figure studies. :)

I love seeing the process, thanks for sharing!
Super nice work! really liking the Andrew Loomis Style!
Loomis and his books habe been a huge help and influence.
Nice work. What were your references? I am a watercolorist and plan to be posting soon. Like Steemit-Youtube reeks.
I googled my references and I don't remember which ones unfortunately.

When doing figure drawing, I always like the quick 1 minute poses, as it really loosens you up and forces you to make the lines of suggestion and basic form. Lovely sketches by the way!
Thank you. Yes, the warm ups really make the difference.
