To Brighton!

"You probably sold me an ice cream!"

I was in a café on the edge of the Laines in Brighton with @gillianpearce - I had an omelette and chips, she had a frittata and salad (and a few of my chips!) And in the random conversations that run wild when you don't really know what you have in common except what you've seen on Steemit, we find that we both have family connections to Weymouth. I sold ice creams there in the early eighties and maybe, just maybe Gillian stopped by for a '99' - we didn't pin it down.

One of the things that build our connection on Steemit was that we were both at BarCampLondon3 in 2007. Small blocks to build upon. It gets me thinking that there are probably loads of these random path crossings, that they're likely everywhere, but we don't spot them until we're sat together chatting about nothing really, just life, and then they appear. We talked about being able to rewind reality and view those moments. I imagined a ubiquitous CCTV system universally and eternally indexed and accessible, a visual version of my Google Maps location history.

We've got bits of things that are similar. It should already be possible to say of any two people who've kept location services on continuously: "These are the times in the past five years that you've been within 1 mile of each other, within half a mile of each other, within 50 yards!" And that facility is only going to increase as we collect more data about ourselves.

Anyway, with 20th Century technology, we'll never definitively know who I sold ice creams to, so it's nice to keep it as a "maybe could have".

We walked down to the sea front and speculated about the water temperature although neither of us were likely to test it out and then we walked along the shore until our legs got tired, so we took our selfies (I made sure I had a structure growing out of my head) and went our separate ways.

You can triangulate the truth of this post by comparing with Gillian's version

So glad you popped down for a chat and to share your chips with me @lloyddavis. I hope it will be the first of many such spontaneous meetings.

Just so you know, the sea temperature is now 15 degrees, so only 2 more degrees to go and I might actually go in, if it's a sweltering hot day. 😂

thank you, it was a really refreshing day for me.

Of course not as refreshing as if I'd had a paddle :D

See you again soon, I hope
