We're getting new carpets. It's taking longer than expected.

When we decided to do it, it seemed like a sensible thing to do to split the taking out of the old ones and laying of new ones so that we'd have time to review and repair the boards underneath. It was a good idea. We knew already that the stairs needed some attention and there are some creaky boards upstairs.

So on Friday the guys came to take the old carpet away. We basically had to move everything other than the beds, the sofa and the dining room table into the bathroom and kitchen which are not carpeted. They worked quickly and within an hour we were stripped of carpet. The boards aren't too bad but it's definitely NO BARE FEET time.

It felt bearable for a couple of days, but the plan was that today the carpenters would come (having had their Easter Bank Holiday) and fix what needed fixing and they and the carpet fitters would work around each other. Well part of the plan worked. The chippies came and fixed the boards and the stairs, but the carpet fitter rang to say our carpet hadn't been delivered to the warehouse.

So now we're in limbo (high-class problems) and having to still put up with bare boards with nails sticking out of them, even if I don't fear for my life anymore just by going upstairs.
