Mexico City Madness: Blowing the Motorcycle Engine on the Way to Acapulco with Silkie Chickens Story, Explained

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Our night at the sexy hotel in Mexico City was honestly a rough one although we can't necessarily say it's by fault of the hotel other than the fact that the beds were a bit too firm. It was nice having air conditioning and the ability to expose body limbs without fear of mosquito bite but things like stress, John getting sick and sneezing silkies kept us both up most of that night. The good thing is we caught the sunrise, and I took some photos from our room before checking out.

We got up early and spent the morning attempting to ready ourselves for the journey. We had a motorcycle with at least a broken headlight at 370 kilometers ahead of us. The first bit would be through the cold part, for more than an hour breaking into warmer weather around Cuernavaca. We didn't quite expect to blow the engine, but we did somewhat expect to have issues with the bike that day.

For that reason and many others like a somewhat involuntary day of fasting John was incredibly sick for much of the night. He threw up before going to the hotel and then repeatedly in the early hours of the morning. At a point he tried to take in some sea salt directly making himself sick.

We finally got to a point where we were as ready as we were going to be and we headed out. We stopped repeatedly during the cold part for us, our birds and our bike. It was cold but refreshing as neither of us had really felt cold in years. The bike didn't seem like it was okay and at some point south of Cuernavaca, just a kilometer from a Pemex gas station the bike died as we soared down the highway. We were just cruising and all the sudden the engine died. It wouldn't start again, leaving John pushing the bike and me carrying the two backpacks with our silkie chickens.

Once at the Pemex we found that most motorcycle mechanics were a bit of a hike away. After a few hours of debating we finally traveled to a moto repair place in the little town by walking and taking collectivo, cheap van taxis in this case. We arranged for a guy to meet us back at the Pemex and headed back, paying a local taxi 35 pesos for the job. As soon as we got back John started throwing up and basically proceeded to do so now sunsick until the mechanic showed up.

Considering how sick John was I was left with the task of communicating with the mechanic.
He told me basically that it'd cost at least 1500 pesos and a few days to have him do it, up to 4500 pesos.
John in the mean time arranged us a ride from a local Acapulco friend's Dad to come get us both and the bike, just as we considered selling the broken bike for too little pesos and bussing home.

We ended up sitting outside of that Pemex for another 5 hours waiting for our ride which cost us a lot more than we intended to spend on it. At this point we've had the bike fixed making the cost of the return and the repairs over 10000 pesos, a serious blow to the wallet.

And now since 4 of the 6 total have died making those two remaining silkies the most expensive silkies I have ever heard of.

great city i like this pictures

the sunshine!!!

That was definitely a serious blow to the wallet... But the bike breaking down and the culture, the sights, everything involved is part of living and at least you had time together and worked together to get through it. Some nice photos as well!

Indeed, definately a financial blow we didn't need.

Que increíble lugar me gusta parece un pequeño pueblo

Sí, es agradable visitarlo, pero no es una ciudad para mí
