A new interesting info about this sacred place

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 days ago

Few years ago, thanks to being invited to attend and photograph a wedding ceremony, that was far away from the "regular" ones, I discovered for myself a distant, remote and not broadly known very old monastery, called "Saint Dimitar".

That part of the wedding was quite a thing, the guest had to have hiking shoes or rubber boots because there was a two-kilometers walk on a very muddy road.

Just imagine for yourself the dirty feet and legs and the bright white dress of the bride :)

Anyways, I went later, on another day to take photos when nobody is around.

As you can see, the monastery was built in year 1240, demolished and rebuilt a couple of times. More could be seen on this Wiki page https://bg.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%97%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8_%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B8%D1%80 no English yet but that's not what I am writing about today.

Here is the cherry on top with that interesting info I promised.

Recently I found out there is a small water source nearby, water coming right from the cliffs of the mountain. So men bring there a bottle of Rakia (you know, that famous strong alcoholic drink adored on the Balkans) and dip that bottle inside the spring for a few minutes.

It is believed then that spirit becomes healing. Basically, for every illness.

To express their gratitude, those men put and leave coins in the spring.

First time I hear about such tradition on that controversial land...

I like the cobwebs on the door and the wall. Sometimes neglect has its beautiful side, so to speak. It complements the old look of the place. And I like holy places anyway, and here I really try to abstract myself from the situation in Bulgaria and evaluate the place from another point of view. I think I'm succeeding through your photos and the neglect doesn't hinder me so much, it even helps.
However, the rakija thing is very funny. It just sounds like another excuse to drink alcohol (apparently men need it) - this rakija is holy, cures diseases lol sounds brilliant 😄

The small signs of time, are they?

Some places... are better left alone, otherwise people just turn them into wasteland. No matter inside the cities or in the wilderness...

Well, I bet there is no need to find an excuse to drink. Just living in that part of the world is enough. :)

Rakya for sure kills the germs :D

I've never been the believer type but it's always so nice and fascinating to see places like this.
Did you try rakija since you were in Bulgaria?

 yesterday

I had Rakya many times, it's perfect in the cold seasons and also the best ice-braker in the beginning of a party :D
Thanks for stopping by!
