Our silence is deafening

in #politics8 years ago

Trying to put on a brave face when all you want to see is something good happen in this world is hard. Especially when you have things happening like Donald Trump, Brexit, Brazilian cleansing and McDonald's to name a few.

Not so much McDonald's, I like that from time to time.

Brexit happened a few months ago in the UK. People stood up chanting and celebrating that,

"We're taking our country back"

And they jeered, and beat up coloured people regardless if they were here on leave or indefinitely. They went on their marches and put up signs and for at least a week of their lives they were on top of the world.

They were Kings of kings.

Brexit campaigner and one of the leaders of the campaign, Nigel Farage spoke on the very day that Brexit happened and went back on his word

Where is he now?

Oh he's still campaigning. He teamed up with Trump and spoke at one of his rallies in America a few days ago. Don't ask me where, I live in the UK.

And who stood up? Rose up in defence that a good percentage of votes were backed on a complete lie? And demanded that Farage be imprisoned for such a blatant distortion of truth which effectively tampered with the election results?

No-one.

Our silence was deafening.

We took to the internet, yes. But to battle against one another. Remain voters tore lumps out of leave voters and vice versa, and once again our country became a battle ground from common folk.

The people in charge?

Scott free.

I love my life completely but I just wish that one day Politicians and those at the top of society were able to take responsibility for their actions.

Why aren't we doing anything?

Why aren't we saying anything?

In 2010 people in London took to the streets. London riots? Remember them? But no-one ever took stance. They looted shops, small businesses for the latest TVs, smartphones or computers - yet the people that caused the riots sat in their homes with unabashed security.

And this isn't just the UK, this is the world over.

I recently read that America has a three strikes penal system. 3rd time in Jail and you're in there for life, even for stealing a stick of gum. That shit is crazy - yet people like Brock Turner serve 3 months of a 6 months sentence for provable rape.

That's not freedom. Sorry, it isn't.

Maybe it's time to unite, you know? We argue about such petty things. Race, religion, sexuality - when come to think about it, it's not really that important.

When we start to concentrate more on what binds us together rather than separates us, then the world will be a much, much better place.

But I fear we are at least another Millennial away from such a discovery.

I'll just keep trying to bridge people, and then at least I know I stuck to my beliefs.

I wish blockchain technology will make politicians useless ^^

Agreed! SO agreed!

Well to be fair, since the BREXIT the entire world wants to be the UK's friend again. I'm talking in the economic sense now, so I do believe your country will improve economywise. As for uniting the people, that will be more difficult. Their are 2 problems imo (and this is not just in the UK but everywhere).

  1. People have become vastly more selfish these past decades, everybody likes to live in their little bubble and most people don't give a **** about other people. It's really sad when you think about it.

  2. Gouvernments and big banks around the world are reinforcing the point I made above and are doing their best to keep us seperated.

The important thing is to stay positive. I believe people are starting to wake up (albeit slowly) to the stuff you have pointed out. A lot of us are starting to question the system. I shudder when I see what the politicians have done to my capital (Brussels), in Antwerp the situation is even worse (you can get fined 65 euros for eating a sandwich on the steps of a gouvernment building). The internet has been a great help uniting us, eventually people will stand up (remember what happened in Egypt with Mubarak). The American elections are helping too when you think of it. A lot of people are starting to look through the façade and are asking: "Really? Out of 320 million people these are the 2 options?"
The system will change eventually, if it will happen in my lifetime is another question.

Yes. I hear you - we can only live in hope :)

Fortunately there seem to be no national borders on steemit. Borders cause polarization which usually leads to conflicts. Keep on bridging. :)

Thank you - lovely thing to say!

We have to unite that's true. Brexit and the whole political debate caused many rifts and the lies told were unbelievable. I will never forget the brexiters clambering over one another to deny the NHS millions claim once they had won. Shocking.

Oh I know! Crazy it was!

Did really Nigel Farage say he could guarantee money for the NHS? Not so sure.

It's the same here in the States...We have this vocal minority calling themselves the Silent Majority(stole that from Nixon)...saying we need to harm Hispanics, Moslems, Women, ANYONE of colour...they are Fascists following ONE arrogant Leader! My father & my uncles fought a WAR against Fascism...I'll be d@mned if I am going to sit back & let it take over my country!...I also heard the Scots & Northern Irish want to leave & dissolve the UK, so they can rejoin the EU! Is that 'correct'?

saying we need to harm Hispanics, Moslems, Women, ANYONE of colour

dafuq are you even talking about ?

so they can rejoin the EU! Is that 'correct'?

I don't think it is. Some politicians might have had such delusions in the first days after the referendum, but it will come to nothing. The UK will leave intact and remain intact.

Nigel Farage is the best politician alive in England at this moment. If you cant see that, either you are blind or you are part of the elite who need the EU for money.

Deafening silence is when you don't hear, see, or sense anything for a little over a day.
But yes I agree with what you are saying. Then the ones who speak up get deafened and silenced...

Yes indeed......where did Nigel Farage go ?? pretty un believable eh? great post @lifeisawesome.

I agree we are going through some very scary times. But if we all joined together we would have the power to change this mad situation. People power is a strong force and if we can bring together a large range of society they can't be ignored. The poll tax riots are a good recent example of people saying no and tgey had to change their policy. Sometimes feels like you want to shout 'stop the world i wanna get off'! But that isn't possible we need to stans together and have our voices heard!
