Getting started as a Graphic Designer. || Part One.

Welcome back to my graphic design lesson. Just few days ago I made my course Introduction which I believe many of us here went through. So today I will like to dish out my first lesson which I feel is the very first knowledge I need to pass across.

The first lesson I deem fit to share are the tips you need to know when taking your first step to becoming a graphic designer. And sure many would have love to see me come up with topics on colours,shapes and typography and the like but that is not the very first thing you need to know,I believe there are some basic theoretical knowledge starters are ignorant off and they need to be eqquiped with if they must go far as a creative.Getting to know some of the tips I'll be sharing will help you (starters) in your graphic career.This is just the first part,we really need to take it slowly and trust the process. Let kindly digest the tips.

Believe in yourself

I can't stress this enough,you have to believe in yourself and not get intimidated by those that have gone ahead of you, everyone started at some point,made mistakes at some point but picked up themselves to become what they are today,they believe they can and they are confident about their ability. Never think you can't achieve a design,always see possibility in everything.

Be creative

Don't ever get boxed...never! There is no limit to what the mind can conceive and achieve,you just need to engage your mind to bring out those potential locked within. It's okay to think outside the box sometimes even as you modify the rules and principles,just be you,be real and unique.

Know your graphic tool/software

This is very important,there are so many software out there that a graphic designer can use in creating his or her designs. A graphic designer is suppose to choose from the many options the one suitable for him. It is expected that you have knowledge about all but you're not subjected to using all as it will make you less productive,making you a jack of all,master of none which is not good for you.

Build your portfolio

Don't just focus on just creating designs,create a name,set up a page or gallery where your work can speak,where you can refer people to go check your work. This help to position you well to high paying organization who might just need your service. You can't go to everyone telling them what you do. Thanks to the internet that allows you set up a profile about yourself and what you do in a way and manner that it become visible for all to see.

Never work for free

As a graphic designer,you're not a philanthropist,you could have an NGO that gives free things but not as a graphic designer lest you're being undervalued. When you dish out design for free,your work will not be valued and you have also in a way devalue the effort of many creative out there who basically survive on creating awesome graphic content. Graphic is not cheap,it's just like every other lucrative job that has a very essential role to play in our everyday activity and most especially in our business.

This is very important friends. For you to satisfy your client to the fullest,you need to understand what the really wants and don't assume. Assumption is a very wrong approach to satisfying a client. Of course you have ideas that should make the job look very good and top notch but it might not just be what your client want,that is why you need to the careful enough to know what they need so that you can win their heart and also be perceived as the best since you are good at delivering their job the way they want it. If you feel their idea is not good enough,just try and suggest to them why they should try something else and never try to force them if they don't like your idea.
