Health 101 Restoreant: A restaurant that serves healthy food

I took a morning walk at our town in search for a place to eat. I was looking forward to go to a certain place near the Capitol but they were closed and opens at 10:00 a.m. - not another couple of hours so I decided to go back and headed to Health 101 Restoreant.

Unfortunately, there was nothing else to share for in this walk other than the restaurant I ate. I had managed to walk 8792 steps today according to my phone's counting, not at my goal of 10k or more.

Health 101 is the La Trinidad Branch of Health 100. In Baguio City, the nearby city of La Trinidad, they have three branches there if my assumption is correct: the main branch in Magsaysay Avenue, a branch in General Luna and another at Leonard Wood.

Health 101 is one of the typical restaurants you see around town - at least in set up. The only edge to this is they serve vegetable based food for years. Only recently did they add some meat-based menu.

On the counter, there is a choice of viands. You get to pick two different kinds of viands plus rice - either white or brown. These viands are mostly sauted vegetables with vegemeat or gluten added to it.

Some of the vegetables are cooked in coconut milk and some are added with soy sauce.

There is also a free soup of the day that comes with every meal and this is vegetable based also.

If you are not up to the choices of viands on the counter, then there are other choices of food. These are served ala carte or for sharing.

They also serve fresh fruit and vegetables shakes. I loved their carrot+apple+cucumber+celery combo. The smell and taste of celery is delightful. Others will not agree but to each his own lol! This time, however, we opted for the soy bean coffee.

Me and my companion decided to go for their pancit, pancakes and fresh lumpia.

Pancit bihon is sauted vermicilli noodles with vegetables (carrots, Baguio beans, cabbage) sprinkled with leeks and fried crushed garlic and cooked with soy sauce. They throw in some vegemeat in there. It was simple and basic preparation but I was surprised that I liked it. It was stripped off of the other seasoning that are served in other restaurants. There is just a bit of salt but probably none because it was the soy sauce that's giving it saltiness. Calamansi or lime is squeezed to mix with pancit but I did not bother to do that because this is usually mixed to break the saltiness.

Fresh lumpia consists of vegetables almost the same as the ingredients of the pancit minus the leeks and garlic and wrapped in flour-and-egg wrapper with a leaf of lettuce. It is then covered with thick peanut butter sauce. It is a perfect combo for soy bean coffee or vegetable soup. I love the crunchiness and sweetness of fresh vegetables.

Lastly, we ordered pancakes. It is topped with fresh slices of apples, papaya and honeydew and a powder of cinnamon to top it off. A syrup is provided. No-salt scrambled egg comes along with that order.

Unfortunately, the pancake is a let down. It is inferior to what I have eaten in their other branches that I thought I am in a different retaurant. The pancake is so dry it absorbs every liquid in your mouth. It's been a long time since the last I have eaten their pancake. If this is their new way of cooking it, I will never order it again.

They accentuated the place since the last time I came here. They added this area to give some sort of intimacy. It is a nice addition. While the place is roomy, it still lacks lighting. Some of the lights are busted.

There is a separate counter for cakes, pastries and other baked goods which are all locally produced.

I appreciate the advocacy of the owner of this restaurant. They support and promote local products.

This is Dulche, the first chocolate made here in Benguet. I love their mint dark chocolate which is almost at par to a foreign brand that I love.

Overall, it had been a 3/5 experience.

Health 101 Restoreant is located at The Gladiola Center km 5 La Trinidad, Benguet. As of this writing, there is no wifi and they do not accept credit cards in this establishment.

Nice restaurant. A lovely assortment of food to eat. The lettuce looked really fresh. Sorry about your pancakes.
I’m surprised they don’t take credit cards.

looks clean and nice :)

It is. Two of the important things I check everytime

I wish they had more restaurants like that where I live... instead we have a surplus of fast food restaurants like McDonald's, Hardees, and Burger King. It looks like it is really good and I like how they advertise that they buy local. It's always good to keep businesses going locally.

We are invaded by fastfood and chain restaurants. It's inevitable. It's getting harder finding places catering to vegans.
