Eye on Artists: The Cars
The Cars is another cool band that has a lot of guitar in it. “My Best Friend’s Girl” is a hit of theirs that discusses the nature of forbidden love and diffusion of loyalties. It’s got a catchy start and repeating chorus with the title of the song in it.
“Bye Bye Love” still gets some play time these days and has their interesting synth in it.
“Let’s Go” was another of their hits. It has an interesting lick that is pretty noticeable
“Magic” is also a technically fine song with an interesting video. But also not super memorable.
Another of their hits that still gets played these days is “You Might Think” its pretty interesting and the video has some interesting green screen in it.
“Drive” isn’t as cool. It’s a fine song but nothing really memorable. But it’s interesting to see the hit and misses.
“Shake It Up” has got some interesting synth and an interest vocals.
One of my favorite songs of their’s that is also a hit of theirs is “Just What I Needed” its a typical rock song with interesting vocals and competent instrumentals. The solos in it are pretty cool and then it gets into a synth in it that’s pretty cool too.
You might think is probably my favorite of theirs. I can actually remember Drive being a huge hit when I was younger. It may have not charted super high (I honestly don't know), but it was their first real ballad that the radio played so it really connected with the angsty teens of the time.
