Anxiety And Panic Attacks { Real Story}
Panic disorder is a state of intense fear or anxiety, sudden, in the absence of real threats that cause rapid heart rate, rapid breathing and short, the feeling of loss of control or imminent death. In terms psychosomatic, panic expresses inner imbalance and vulnerability, focusing on the expectations of others rather than on their own needs, lack of parts and the danger of losing control.
In the face of panic it is important to understand the fears that control our lives.
The six fundamental fears are: fear of death, fear of disease, fear of poverty, fear of losing the love of a dear being, fear of aging, fear of criticism.
Each question has a panic attack, a situation favoring one or more triggers that remember the real cause and revive the emotions and physical sensations once lived.
Behind every panic attack is a story that wants to be told.
The goal of counseling is to relieve symptoms and not ultimately to reveal the "story".
When it comes to revealing the story, identifying the causes and their integration into the consciousness of the person affected, healing can be complete.
Based on stories thread of life with understanding and compassion and attention always lurking, the counselor can detect traumatic events that started everything.
Victor is a middle-aged man with neat. Working in a pleasant and stimulating environment and lead a rich social life.
He lives alone.
It is in good relations with parents, especially the mother who is his best friend.
Here's what he reports:
"I had my first panic attack now more than ten years. I was on a round-trip with a group of friends by car. We stopped here and there a day or two, visit, go on. One day we drove to the car wash. As usual, I remained in the car during automatic washing program. I like to look spillage windows and rotary brushes. Only this time, suddenly, I felt sick, I felt that I was suffocating, I have to get out! I started screaming and I simply sprang out of the car. After I calmed down, I put everything to fatigue during the journey. The next day, a feeling of fear and suffocation reappeared while climbing narrow stairs and into the night. This time it all seemed more intense than the first, practically something pushed me out of the car directly. I was suffocating, I needed to run away, to escape. I decided to go back home."
Following investigations, the diagnosis was anxiety panic attack.
From that time I was taking a treatment. Currently attacks are rare, their intensity has faded, maybe because I'm used to them. I want a normal life without drugs and without attacks. We are talking about everyday life, satisfaction and dissatisfaction about relationships past and present in an attempt to create a picture as accurately. Victor declares - I know what is my problem: my mother. I love her and I could not do without it (Victor left home at 18 years and then for themselves!) - but often exceeds it. She criticizes me, offends me and when I fight back she would say that she will give up on me forever! For example, she comes to my house in my absence, and sometimes invite their friends to smoke although I'm not a smoker and asked her not to do that, she knows how I hate that. If I complain, she is threatening me bad, and saying that never will comes to me again! My friends are her friends and I enjoy it, but I do not like when I break up with someone and she continues for years to see that someone, and I repeated that what she does sucks but anyway, in fact she always criticize me, always has been.
Rewinding the memories from the day the first attack, I find out that, in that day Victor spent hours on the phone, describing her mother an object that was tasked to buy for her. At the time there was no possibility to send photos by phone. That object could be purchased elsewhere. Mother did not specify more details about the object, but threatened him "do not take anything stupid, like you do always, cause I will throw it away!". To make the purchase right, Victor endeavored to describe him in more detail types, despite losing hope, he searched for hours with his friends, the irritation increased. Nothing seemed to match. The more time passed, the tension grew louder as the day went on there. For several hours Victor lived an intense tension and frustration, feeling trapped in a hopeless situation!
After, in the late afternoon they went to wash the car, in that moment the panic attack appeared.
A situation that felt that suffocates him, an apparently hopeless situation and that he could not control?
It was something about a car, water? - no nothing.
Then Victor remembered that he had a repetitive dream: the house surrounded by water.
A threatening water that surround the house and climbing the walls.
Water symbolizes life, the amniotic fluid, mother!
Dream speaks of a hopeless situation - the bond with the mother.
Victor was right, it was a problems with the mother.
Birth is a first conflict between mother and child, both of them engaged in a struggle for life and they feel mutual pain.
The baby develops in the womb, a warm, nurturing, secure it contains.
With the start of the first contraction seen jostled and forced to move to escape to the birth canal, but is tight, feels suffocated, frightened, in danger of death.
Finally it is thrown into an alien environment, perceived as hostile. His air enters the lungs violent light hurts his eyes, heard loud noises and strangers, touched and handled, feels threatened and screaming protest. This happens to us all. Some births are more difficult but takes longer, there are complications and turns in events really traumatic for both mother and newborn.
I ask if he knows anything about the circumstances of Victor's birth and he confirm that it was a difficult birth that lasted several hours, and it was in real danger of suffocation because he had three circular cord.
We could consider this first trauma as a cause of panic attacks?
Ridiculous, many of you would say.
Between him and his mother a deaf struggle. It is not by chance that the first panic attack occurred in the car as he watched the water trickling over the windows. What symbolic image of the uterus and amniotic fluid!
Victor is dependent on his mother - he sat in the car during the wash cycle, he relived the sense of security of the womb. In the first attack on his mother abused him and he could not defend him, he could not retaliate for fear of losing her love.
Conclusion:
Presumptive cause of panic disorder: traumatic birth.
Favorable circumstances: hopeless situation - from taking an inappropriate gift or not to take anything, no matter what Victor have done, he could risk to lose the love of the angry mother.
Triggers: interior of a car (representing the womb), water running in the windows (representing the amniotic fluid), the operation of the brush (exit impossible); meaning: once friendly environment suddenly becomes aggressive and threatening.
Unconscious conflict: the struggle between the mother and the desire for liberation.
Victor talks about his need to resolve this conflict between the need to disconnect from the mother and establish healthy boundaries and fear of losing her love.
Although Victor was somehow aware of the "problem", he avoid years in a row to look for a solution or even face reality and of course could not make any connection between mother and grievances related to panic attacks.
Reveling the "story" behind the panic disorder, he was confronted with the need to seek appropriate solutions that would lead to resolve the conflict, healing the relationship with his mother and his own healing.
A middle aged man dependent on his mother. Idk, but seems there's more than some womb attachment. Sounds more like overprotective, knows all better mom sticked on his life.
But I can't tell, I am not a psychoanalyst.
