Letting go of Perfectionism (or... Going out and having fun instead!)

in #travel6 years ago

I am letting go of the need to be perfect. The house is messy - not dirty - just a bit 'things strewn abouty', but I'm letting go of my tendency to find more chores to do. It seems I have a very keen eye for noticing things that need cleaning or putting away and it's a bit of a habit that has, in the past (notice I say 'in the past' :) ) stopped me pursuing experiences that are more fun filled.

So now I'm changing this. Even as I write I'm noticing the resistance - it's like churning a very old wheel - and I'm hoping that I can be ok with that feeling being there whilst I pursue a fun filled afternoon instead of a chore filled one. I should add that there is nothing essential that needs to be done. Rent is paid, bills are paid, I have a good work schedule coming up, so there's no need to stress about the little things. Instead, I have decided to spend the afternoon getting on a train to a nearby suburb, going to an art exhibition and possibly Ofo'ing home.

Time to go.

1.05pm

Things aren't going to plan. I forgot about my stomach and I'm someone who doesn't do hungry well at all so the first port of call on arrival must be food. I have spent the last 30 minutes wandering around looking for something I would like to eat that comes within budget. It's payday tomorrow so the budget is small but after half an hour and the memory that I have NEVER had a good meal in this suburb, I'm starting to feel depressed. I eventually settle on a small organic cafe with pretty cushions and a healthy looking menu and order a rather tasteless chicken and vege wrap which blows my budget.

I decide to research where exactly I need to go to find the art installation and discover that yesterday was the last day. I know that there's a Street Art Walk in a suburb about 6kms away but I don't want to get back on the train and to be honest, I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps just about now. I ponder going home and reading on the bed.

I get a little surge of something lovely and with it comes the decision to walk the 6kms to the suburb with the Street Art Walk. It's hot, I have jeans on (but I also have my superwoman T-shirt on, which I shall share at some point) and I'm a little bit grumpy but it feels like the right thing to do. History has taught me that giving up when you have an intent to do something doesn't lead to happy feelings in the evening, so here we go, I decide.

And here we are:

I discover the Street Art Walk and take many, many photos.

Apparently, local street artists were employed to paint walls in an attempt to combat a graffiti problem in the area.

I sort of get lost in it, wandering around and admiring the walls...

And then it's time to come home and I do.

The chores are still there but on the train I made a list of the top 3 important ones and I knocked them off as soon as I returned (go me!!)

And now, I'm just finishing this. It's been great! I actually did what I wanted to and got a few chores done too. I am ready for my evening and a bit of junk TV.

lots of love :)

Thank you 😊

Glad you made the choice to see the murals in the end, makes me want to go now :) These artists works are exceptional. No wonder there are no tags up on the walls now ;) They must have respect for these artists. Thanks for sharing
