Olives toasts for snacks

Christmas is near and venezuelan love to eat olives in this season of the year. We consume lots of olive in our Christmas meals in the famous hayacas, ham bread and to fill the pork leg named here "pernil". Olives are not produced in Venezuela, they come from other countries like Greece, Turkey and Morocco, that is the reason why they are so expensive, but they have a very strong flavour, so we don't need to use many.

They are part of the Mediterranean diet because they contain minerals and vitamins that benefit our health, specially because they contain omega 3 and omega 6 and many antioxidants. There are green, purple and blacks and of many sizes. The black ones are less tasteful than the green, but they contain less salt. They are filled with nuts and red pepper.

I prepared this bread one Christmas, and now my family wants me to prepare it for every Christmas season to accompany our Christmas menu.

Ingredients needed to prepare this bread:

  • 600 grams of plain flour
  • extra flour for the kneading
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 cup of olive coarsely cut

To leaven it you need:

  • 14 grams of yeast
  • 1 cup of water less than warm
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

How to prepare this bread:

  • In a small pan place the water, the sugar and the yeast
  • set aside until it grows
  • meanwhile place the flour in a big bowl
  • add the salt
  • add the butter
  • work the butter with your fingers until it looks like breadcrums
  • add the egg
  • cut the olives
  • add the olives to the flour
  • add the yeast
  • mix all and place the dough on the table to knead
  • knead it for about 10 minutes
  • divide the dough in two parts
  • place them in the tins previously greased
  • set them aside until they grow
  • place in the oven at 180°C
  • cook for about 30 minutes until they are golden
  • let them cool before cutting them in slices

  • place them in a tray
  • make the toast under the hot grill without burning them
  • it will take less than 10 minutes

Serve them as you prefer. I like to serve them with mozzarella cheese and dry tomatoes in olive oil.

Thank you so much for sharing in detail how the completely handmade breads you prepared with olives are made in SteemFoods Community. :) Especially these mini breadcrumbs are great for breakfast. The breads we prepare at home are always healthier and more delicious. Venezuela did not know that it meets the needs of olives from Turkey, the products purchased from different countries is expensive. How much is a kilogram of olives in Venezeula? Here we have a parallel dollar that is making many people struggle for food because of the prices they have due to the high cost of living. 1 kilogram of olives as the one I used costs about 6 dollars you have to multiply it by 970000, and that is too much money. I bought because I am goin to prepare some hayacas to sell otherwise I wouldn't do it. Yes, bread made at home is the best especially if you have children, but people prefer to buy everything already made because they say they don't have time to cook. Every head is a world.

I love olives, they bring a lot of flavor to meals. Although we can eat them all year round, waiting for the months of November and December, gives a special touch to using olives to feel the Christmas season.

Venezuelan associate olives with christmas season, but there are many meals in which we can use them.
